They have a pole on ESPN asking if Serena should still be number one. If not Serena then who? Li Na..
10sfan said:That is laughable. Serena's ranking points are sky high. She cannot be dethroned for a long time. These media people will stop at nothing to get attention. I say we ignore them and get back to more serious discussions

WTH are 42% of these people thinking.
Need one of them to come on and explain the rationale

I could imagine someone in the stats room given the task of coming up with a poll about the women's game. Said stats person picks the most well-known and popular ( at least in the U.S.) women's player and makes up the least thought-provoking poll possible.
Pretty sure most of the folks who participated in the poll don't know much about ranking points etc.
They selected based on personal feelings ,how much they heard about her in the last year and how she did in the Australian.

Isn't that the truth!
The irony is that the ranking system can be viewed more objectively than just about any other aspect of tennis. It's all about numbers; it isn't subjective. The person who has collected the most points is No. 1. Period. In this case, it's Serena, therefore she's No. 1, and deservedly so.

The ranking system is indeed objective. The point of the poll is whether she is still
#1 in the minds of the people. The pollster is not trying to test the knowledge of the voters.
The pollster is trying to gauge the feeling of the voters.
Of course, it still does not make sense as she holds 2 of the last four slams,
not to mention her titles in so many other events. Whichever way one cuts it,
Serena is undisputable #1 and that too by a wide margin.
Such a poll would have been thoughtprovoking it it was done when Dinara,
JJ, CW etc were ranked #1.
