I feel obligated to open this one, as it is happening in my former country:cool:

Seeds:
1. Dimitrov
2. Youzhny
3. Monfils
4. Simon
5. Pospisil
6. Seppi
7. Mahut
8. Nieminen

First time Grigor is a top seed, Simon is a 3 time champion here.
Many Spaniards and Argentines won here in the past, but back then it used to be in September after USO. Now it is held concurrently to Barcelona, so the Armada is absent

Not a bad field at all. I hope Dimitrov and Popsicle do well here.

Me too. Vasek has been beaten left and right since his back injury in January, I hope he starts to play better.

Be careful guys, there is another popsicle (a Czech guy) in the qualifying of this tournament.
I have not checked whether he won the qualifying tourney or not.

I also have not checked the draw.

There is a possible collision of popsicles here which would cause a lot of spill.

Me three. I was really getting into Pospisil last summer/fall, and was looking forward to watching him grow this year, but ... nothing.

Anything in the Canadian press about him lately? Or how his back is?

Won't be any Popsicle collision. The Czech guy, Jaroslav did not make it out of the qualifying, was beaten by Ungur from Romania.
Qualifiers to the main draw: Ungur, Berankis, Mathieu and a player from Georgia, Basilashvili, ranked 310.
A very good result in R1 by Jiri Vesely:
Vesely - Chardy 7-6, 6-0.

Pospisil's game is still not clicking, lost to Ungur:
7-5, 2-6, 1-6.
Berlocq upset Seppi and
Mathieu upset Mahut

So, Hungry Ungur ate two Popsicles, not just one.

And Haase just beat Istomin. I was wondering about the Rosol - Simon match-up, so I'm not surprised that Lukas won, but Simon has really been struggling this year, and has dropped to #28. Any idea what's up?

He has had a back injury in February forcing him out of Rotterdam. Ever since he came back, he plays poorly for his standards, with many R1 exits.

See only people who know their tennis gossip would understand that 'black heart' reference;)

Well, his nickname is slowly changing from black heart to
brave heart with good wins piling.
