That was probably the worst game of the match, and it's been a terrible match!

I have to say, it's an indoor tourney, they only have four matches to schedule, and here we are at 1am local time, and this one could go into a third set. That's not just stupid on the part of the organisers, it's negligence... :nono

I agree...Kieran. There is no reason that the first match should start at 2 pm instead of 11 am. It is just mind boggling.

Win or lose the match...Stan is an idiot. He had the chance to finish the match early but decided to spray some errors so he could play a longer match.

As for Nadal, I'm glad he is fighting hard even though it is 1 am local time.

At this rate, the first semifinal will start first before the match ends.

The winnner of this match stays on court to wait for Novak to come on...

Stan gets it! A deserved win, a poor match, and I think made a lot worse by the two of them looking knackered because they played so late. Stan had a cup of black coffee court side. says it all...

Anyways, kinda entertaining match. Wawrinka should've ended this match a lot earlier but decided to be a giver by spraying errors all over the place.

As for Nadal, it was nice that he fighting hard until the end. Also, his forehand and footwork is getting better each day which shows his confidence is increasing match by match.

In my opinion, the KEY for Nadal in 2016 is how well can he handle the crucial points towards the latter stages of each set. This match showed you that he gets tight and miss easy routine shots when he is leading or about to take the set.

He was serving for the 1st set but got broken. Then in the 2nd set tiebreaker, he had a two break lead but lost the lead. Finally, on set point, on his serve, he failed to capitalize the set.

These are the type of moments that Nadal needs to conquer in order to have an amazing 2016. I know he is 29 years old and it won't be easy, but he is talented enough to overcome these types of mental lapses on crucial points.

Good post! Definitely Rafa has given himself a platform to spring from next year. Things look a thousand times more positive now than they did after the US Open. Everything about his game looks better, he's more confident and making better shots.

And he's still nowhere near his best, so he has room to improve...

There were actually some very high quality shots in the match from both guys, but overall, yeah, not consistently great from either guy.

And here's a good indication that Nadal should be fine for next year: He played the whole 9 Masters 1000 and 4 Slams this year. Yes, he did horrible in most of them but playing the whole set of Masters 1000 and all 4 slams shows you that he is physically fine. Heck, he looks fresh too (at to me).

The question now is his mental state of mind on whether or not he will be confident or nervous. But having a full off-season and being healthy should do wonders for him!

I have watched a tiny bit of this one but whatever I saw was the same issue with Nadal: He is still hitting the balls short. Any guy who has a bit of an offensive mind will put Nadal on defense quickly. He has to figure it out. Less tension on the racket, different racket, modify the swing...whatever. He cannot leave all these balls in the middle of the court and expect to win against better players.
