Hard to believe this is still an issue or "non-issue!" I'm sorry, but the top woman isn't going to beat a male college player! The power and touch that men possess is too much for them; sorry! Martina Navratilova played an exhibition against Jimmy Connors quite a few years ago, and it probably took something out of him just to keep her in the match for a 7-5 set score; IIRC! Check You-Tube; that's where I saw it! He gave her half the doubles area as well and she still couldn't beat the old man! She had some great points and it was entertaining, but it's just not happening; even with Amazons like Serena and Sharapova! They aren't going to beat any good male tennis player; even an amateur from college!

If it happens, I don't think Murray or Serena are looking to do anything beyond providing entertainment, and helping a charity. I think of it as being like the men and women who participated in the Hit for Haiti a couple of years ago.

The problem is, when both Venus and Serena's egos were too big that they actually believed their own BS, we got to see it happen! We all remember a male player took up their challenge over 10+ years ago and blitzed them both! He was ranked 100, came out hungover and unshaven, smoking a cigarette, and still annihilated them 2 and 1 respectively! They were lucky it wasn't televised! :laydownlaughing :p :D

Serena wouldn't win a game against the guy ranked 276...

Serena won a game vs Braash who was ranked 200 at

the time and Serena only 16yrs old.

"They played as intensely as they could, while Braasch performed with gentlemanly restraint...'Against anyone in the top 500, no chance,' said Braasch, ' because I was playing like 600 today.' "

This. :snigger

And this: 'Braasch was described by one journalist as "a man whose training regime centred around a pack of cigarettes and more than a couple bottles of ice cold lager." '

Did anyone see Serena on Letterman last night? He asked her about this, and she said she would never do it, and even asked him [meaning Andy] not to talk about it anymore. End of story.

I didn't see it, but it finally registered in her head that women can't compete equally to men in singles! It's not being sexist to say that's the stupidest thing to even think, no matter how hard they hit the ball! Men just have too much power and control over the ball! If some male college player really tried, he could blitz the top woman pros without losing not only a game, but single points as well! Back in my hayday as a high schooler, I still had no trouble winning against college females who were very good! It just wasn't a contest! I still remember Chris Evert commenting years ago that she couldn't beat her brother and he went nowhere with his tennis! I hope this topic doesn't come up again! I get so frustrated with it for some reason! I understand the naivette and stupidity of Venus and Serena back when they were kids where Braashe taught them a lesson they'll never forget coming onto the court hungover, unshaven, smoking a cigarette and "smoked" them both back to back! :laydownlaughing :clap

Rumor Has It.....

While roaming the gossip sites saw this:

The idea of Andy Murray playing in a Las Vegas showdown against Serena Williams - originally mooted in a jokey Twitter exchange - is set to become reality next year.
Negotiations between their representatives are likely to take place over the next month and the two Grand Slam champions may discuss it in person, as they will be training near each other in Florida over the coming weeks.
Wimbledon champion Murray, who has started hitting tennis balls again after his back operation in September, may also take part in a new exhibition event in Scotland, expected to be in Glasgow or Edinburgh in the latter half of 2014

Battle Of The Sexes II

What started as a twitter joke may now actually come to fruition as it has been reported that British No. 1 Andy Murray and top female star Serena Williams will likely collide in a exhibition match in the summer of 2014.

Serena has discussed the possibility during the US Open, saying: “I doubt I’d win a point but that would be fun.” She had suggested that she be allowed to hit into the tramlines to make things fair between them.

The match would also likely take place between Wimbledon and the American hard court season, with all money raised going to Murray and Serena’s personal charities.

I saw that interview Tented. But this is new.

Just a short time ago there was an interview

where Serena said she hated tennis and now

She goes on and on about how much She loves

tennis. She may have changed her mind. I'm

sure She was offered a lot of money and it would

prolly be one of those exo love fest matches where

they clown around and don't get serious. And its

to help her charities.

INFORMATION: - BJK beat an old man who was not ready for that match in '73! Other than that, men have embarrassed female players over and over; except in some exhibition where it was more a joke like Farrah Fawcett whipping Bill Cosby in "Battle Of The Network Star!" The following year Dick Van Patten trained hard and made sure to not even give her a chance! I've seen highlights of a LV exhib. where Connors played Martina in a made for TV event and he pretty much toyed with her! Not sure if you remember a special event where guys/gals played a lone Tie-Breaker in the mid '70's! I can only recall Evonne Goolagong outlasting Ilie Nastase, but he couldn't hit that hard! Borg's topspin shots were too much for Virgina Wade and she only amused with a few good points taking advantage of the double's lines allowed by the ladies! That was quite a long time ago! The results would get no better with the technology and strings allowed today! Even if you forced the guys to go retro with wood, it would still be a massacre! We need to drop this topic altogether! It's just not feasible!

Why would Serena do this. She would struggle to get points against any guy in the top 100. It's delusional to think otherwise. We talk about the lack of young guys challenging for honours. It is precisely because of this. The sheer speed and consistent power of mens tennis now makes the chances of the gap ever closing even less likely. Serena practices with guys, there's a reason for that. And she'll know that those dudes wouldn't even get into to the top 300
