There is no one in this field that should be giving her this much trouble. This is a great tournament for her to get the rhythm back on her serve and groundies.

Yeah she had some trouble with her serve in her opening match as well. I don't know what it was but after the French she really kind of lost her rhythm, and I am not exactly sure why that is. I hope she isn't suffering one of those I achieved what I wanted to achieve and now I am in a bit of a lull stages. You know also playing a lot of tennis gives people a lot more looks at how to play your serve as well, so that is also a catch 22 playing more opens you up more for easy dissection.

Well if you're offering alot more 2nd serves it definitely increases your opponents looks. Even a scrub could take someone's 2nd serve to task.

You can't judge Serena's us open form off of an MM. She played horrible in Stanford and Cincinatti last year and came to the US open guns blazing. If you've followed Serena for any amount of time, you know she has the tendency to just go through the motions at times. For instance Stanford final against coco went 6-2 75 or 6-4 75 and then she beat her at the open 61 61

I won't judge her form until she is at the US Open, but it is troubling her serve has gone off a bit at the moment.

I find nothing troubling about it whatsoever. It's a small event and she's probably using it more as practice, Serena still has her lazy, non-fully committed moments.

I believe Serena's form is okay considering she hasn't played since Wimbledon. I like that she chose to play the Swedish Open, possibly getting a title she has never had. I believe Halep might have been a challenge but she is out now; probably tired from winning 3 titles in a row.

I wish she would play Stanford too but she won there in '11 and '12.

So happy Serena won 2 Espy awards; well deserved the way the end of 2012 (Wimbledon, Olympic, US Open and YEC champion).

I know, her Wimbledon loss was a little disappointing but winning the 2013 French Open was her real goal.

I dislike Serena playing at the US Open (all the past drama but she triumph last year and shut the detractors up); hopefully she can repeat!

I remember when Venus and Serena didnt play USA Open series for yrs..I hope Serena just shows up in Toronto only...the USA Open scares me with the USTA shady tactics.I hope she keeps her cool and not get drawn into silly drama by the media... hopefully she will learn to say ..no comment.

Many fail to recognize that Venus and Serena were coached by Richard to be selective in their schedule; thus their longevity on the tour.
In actuality, putting their injury time off tour, they did not play that many less events than other top players; I believe some wanted to see them in more events.

But, they were gifted enough to not need to play week in and week out to stay high in the rankings; also when they would return to the tour they could win the big events and get their ranking back up quickly and some resented that!

They both have won slams while ranked #1 or as low as #81; they were very efficient on tour.

Agreed...Its truly is appalling the treatment that Serena has received by the USTA at the US Open. Sure there were times that Serena could have taken the high road but even someone as mild manner as big Sis Venus woulda lost her "cool" with the events that have occurred. As a Serena fan, all you can hope for is smooth sailing.:snigger

What do you know? I have quarter finals scores!

FRIDAY, JULY 19, 2013

[3] Klara Zakopalova (CZE) d Richel Hogenkamp (NED) | 6 - 2 | 6 - 3 |
[8] Johanna Larsson (SWE) d Mathilde Johansson (FRA) | 6 - 1 | 6 - 2 |
[1] Serena Williams (USA) d [5] Lourdes Dominguez Lino (ESP) | 6 - 1 | 6 - 1 |

So, Flavia is "for sure" but Serena isn't?

Nobody has anything planned for Serena. Serena just needs to go into the US Open relaxed and not high strung to the point where her emotions fly off the handle. It isn't the US Open tournament official's fault if Serena can't keep herself collected when things aren't going well for her.

Sundaymorningguy, Serena was "well collected" when she won last year!

But, your statement is what makes her fans worry; the negative attitude towards her and looking for something to criticize about?

Funny how in Serena's long excellent career, the US (IW, USO) is the only place in the world where she has had a problem?
