Wow, terrific match. :clap

(Dimitrov's FH on match point was stunningly bad. :snigger )

Yeah, Fernando hit several double faults yesterday, which you mention above. It is a shame he can't shake that, but in the end he won, which is what's most important.

I keep wondering why he didn't address the second serve issue with a good coach. He should have hired someone to help him, because that shot technically has to be wrong.
Anyway, about Grigor, he has a long way to go before he fulfills his potential. He's got some major wholes to fill as well in his game. Sometimes he looks clueless as far as what to do from the baseline.

I don't know anything about his current coach, do you? Have they been together a while?

I've mentioned him recently in the WTA forum, so why not here --

Now that Roddick is retired, I'm wondering if Stefanki is available, and if he would be a good match with Fernando? He did wonders with Gonzo back in '06-'07, and then helped Roddick get to the '09 Wimbledon final.

Ricardo Sanchez is listed as coach for him, he worked with Petrova, Jankovic, Wozniacki

RE: BÃ¥stad 250

Verdasco demonstrated the mental toughness he is renowned for, winning the final set 7-5 in his last 3 matches. :)

Maybe he turned the corner after the Wimbledon performance. I thought that win over Nadal in Madrid on blue clay would do the trick but that wasn't the case.

Fernando will face Carlos Berlocq in the final. Hopefully, Verdasco takes the trophy, and takes good confidence into the North American HC swing.

They've only played once, and it was on a hard court:

But Verdasco won, so I'm taking that as a good sign anyway.

I just started watching, and Berlocq is up 7-5, 3-0.

Now that I've watched about 15 minutes, I see what you mean. Berlocq is playing incredibly well, and it seems to be intimidating and frustrating Fernando. He needs to hang in there, though. It's times like these when I think of the top guys, who (usually) fight to the end. Fernando needs to tell himself the match isn't over; he can still win this. As is, his attitude seems to be empowering Berlocq.

It's over. 7-5, 6-1. Congrats to Berlocq, but I'm very disappointed in Fernando.

That was a very poorly played match by Fernando. His stats in finals is in fact depressing: 5-13

Good for him, another 30 y old with a first title. He learned something from his younger countryman, JMDP, hit the ball as hard as you can, if it finds the court, good things will happen.

I just saw the replay of this match on TC.. it looks like Verdasco just had tired legs but the CB played well..
