Sweet speech. She said she'd love to see her sister on the other side of the next on Sat. The Williams sisters are stunning athletes. No doubt. But Venus's desire to play, without the results, has been amazing and a role model for loads of young players. What a champ she is, whatever happens in 2 days.

AND SERENA said it well too:

'''it's just right -- to be back at the beginning"

WILLIAMS VERSUS WILLIAMS.

this is like the stuff of legends -- i mean not JUST sports or just tennis --

this is the stuff of LEGENDS -- like stories in ancient greece, the epics of cultures, that kind of thing.

whoever HEARD OF such a thing as what their story has been? the great legends of history are all about SYMBOLS to civilization -- the ones that stories to generations later are told about...

it's not just about ''who won " - or a ''great rivalry" --even the likes that we see in roger/rafa - etc...

this one about the williamses goes beyond that.

i repeat -- the

SAGA of the williamses -- is more than JUST tennis or sports . they are of course the PERFECT showcase for everything the williamses had to accomplish and triumph through.

it is about matters CIVILIZATIONAL, cultural, historical,
tragedies, personal, family, defiance against exclusion or resentment -
wide-eyed taking up of the challenge at being resented -

it is literally about continents - histories -- peoples, cultures - norms - taking it all on -- and saying

"we are williamses - you all see what we LOOK like -- AND WE'RE GOING TO earn our way to what we can do -- and the world will have to accept us ".

end of story.

now -- if THAT is not the stuff of legend. i dont know what is.

This is just a 'Master Class Performance' from Serena leading 5-1 in the 2nd set

serena really wanted to get to that finals and her 23rd. VEE wants HER 8TH as much .

but we all know -- from the serena hherself;;

"I'M THE GREEDY ONE" .

lol. and in the end none of us can ever really understand how it works in the ONLY thing that really mattered to either of them --

it's FAMILY.

of course .................

SERENA WILLIAMS WOULD

NEVER have won so many -- and even AO 2017

if JUSTINE HENIN decided to continue

because there would have been a much different high quality opponent
who has an added talent and skill...something done with such skill and speed
even hawk-eye couldn't catch it

raising the hand in the middle of a serve..

You're being sarcastic aren't you?
Actually I never named any one competitor in my previous post but yeah if Henin and Kim Clijsters, possibly also Davenport had stayed around a bit longer than Women's Tennis would have been a lot more competitive and Serena today, possibly had fewer Slams than 23. These GOAT debates you could argue about until the cows come home. Congrats to Serena and her fans on breaking Steffi Graf's record. I really mean that.

davenport -- hingis, clijseters, henin -- serena beat them all --

some even made successful come backs -- and still serena beat them all -
the were around, they came and went and won some -- and serena beat them all.

davenport might have run faster and improved her serves
because serena used to EAT UP her serves.....
hingis might have grown stronger
henin might have grown one foot taller
and learned how to put up both hands without anyone seeing
clijsters would have split the cement itself

and still serena beat them all

they might have made a difference -- and beat the draws - to meet serena to her 23rd major title and still she'd beat them all.

in fact -- they might have made a difference -- be the finalists and serena would now have 30 majors..they should never have left -- it would have made serena's job a lot easier -- beating old familiar friends...

it's just too UNLUCKY for serena she lost the chance to meet her OLD FAMILIAR FOES....

TO AGAIN -- BEAT THEM ALL. for her 30th major.

LOL good on you teddytennisfan. You have every right to be proud of Serena's historic win.

has Graf sent her a congrats tweet ?

oh i don't know about tweets..is that a requirement? lol

but Britbox had an interview youtube of graf - where she was saying

"serena's unbelievable...doing what she's done - NOT just lately - but all her career..i;m really happy for her , excited for her and i hope she breaks the record.
the are meant to be broken and i hope she does it. it would so great for the sport..i have so much respect for her".

it's in britbox's steffi thread.

serena knows her work speaks for itself. that's what matters among THE Elites of elites.
