I think even Serena knows at this point she has to end things quickly, and she can't be Ms. Three Set Mess like last year for the sake of body preservation if she is looking at passing Graf and maybe Court. Let P3tra or Maria or someone else take the Three Set Mess title.
Serena was very tired at the beginning of season 2015...she had a hectic 2014 and had elbow and knee problems.
