I'm hoping Ivanovic v Stosur is a good match. I want Ivanovic to come through, but I won't be sad if Stosur wins.
I hope Serena stays focused against Hantuchova who is really starting to play well again. Hantuchova could certainly win more than a few games even if Serena is focused. Of course, Serena has always mastered Hantuchova. But there was that one loss. Here at the Aussie in 2006. Then of course, 2006 was Serena's worst year on tour since probably 1997 or 1996. They haven't played since 2009.
Pulling for Li but hoping Safarova can make it a match.
Hoping Lauren Davis is good enough to not get crushed by Bouchard. Who knows, maybe she'll come out with the win. I'd be just as happy to see Bouchard win though. She may not be American, but I like her quite a bit, until I think she's a threat to Sloane, then she needs to slow her roll.
And hopefully Barthel can beat Panetta. I definitely think it's possible. She's definitely got the game. But in the slams she hasn't been great. And Panetta has been quite good since her return actually.

Still annoyed it will be Zheng playing Dellaqua. Keys should have been able to pull that match out. 7-5 in the third. She's still got some in point consistency issues to deal with. If she can just learn some patience to set up the shot rather than go for the winner. Now, to be sure, she doesn't just go for the winner from the first ball. But she still pulls the trigger a shot or two too early quite often, and that generally ends up landing out. And then she has way too many mistakes in which she's not even going for the winner and she just hits it long. She's trying to keep it deep clearly, but she just needs to keep working on it. More spin in her shots of course is the issue.

As I have some time on my hands today, which is very rare, of course I am taking this week off from my job at the newspaper. A few comments on today's matches. Naturally, I am pulling for a Eugenie win, she struggled a little against Razzano, her game was not top notch. Will need to get that 1st serve in more often, to go with that wicked backhand she employs. Flavia, looked very sharp in her last match, and yes she has played well recently, I like her chances against Mona. Flavia has a strong serve and can dominate points, if she keeps her Italian temperament under control. I think Li Na can dictate the match against Lucie, but never count Safarova out, she occasionally comes up with a stellar performance when we least expect it. Sort of a toss up between Stosur and Ana, give the edge to Ana and finally Serena's overall power will be enough to down Daniella, who has a steady game, but just will not be able to cope with Serena's continual pounding of the yellow ball.

Alison Riske pressed Kerber in the 2nd, but Angelique comes through. Williams did drop serve for the first time, but will probably get Hantuchova in straights.

Also, Errani/Vinci through in doubles. Forza Italia! Oh, and Serena is through, too.

Lucie is no rookie, she may win this, she did win the first set 6-1, Li had to take a tie-breaker to win the 2nd set. Lucie is ahead in points and breaks...

Genie and Makarova(AO specialist) advanced.
Both in straight sets, I might add...

This Genie is not yet out of the bottle, once she is, watch out WTA tour!

All aussie men have already gone home. Only two aussie women left. Both are
coming on center court shortly, one after other.

Serena and Venus must have withdrawn from doubles. They're supposed to be on court right now, playing Pennetta/Mladenovic, but the scoreboard lists Naydenova/Pereira instead.

Of course Serena is through to the next round. And she has broken another records - for wins at the AO. Congrats Serena. Can't wait to see you grab number 18 on next weekend.
