Evening session in Rod Laver: the long-awaited blockbuster between nobody less than Matthew Ebden (AUS) vs.Vasek Pospisil (CAN) [28]?

:puzzled

Djokovic to play during the day.

Think of it this way, Deni: while the tournament will almost certainly have more chances to put Djokovic up in the marquee slot, they are quickly running out of Australians.

Battle of the old men. Let's hope Julian knocks off Robredo!

Yes, and I think they need to give Djokovic a day match so he has a 'practice run' in all conditions before reaching the QF or SF I think?

The Aussies still have this 17-year old which will be DEMOLISHED by Nadal on Thursday too.

Yeah, I saw him play a bit. It will be a massacre.

The night session is extremely underwhelming, but there are some pretty cool matches during the day: Gasquet vs. Davydenko, Gulbs vs. Querry, Wawrinka vs. Falla and Robredo vs. Bennetteau. I'm mostly interested in the first two matches I named, and I'd like to see how Wawrinka is playing especially since Falla is a capable ball-striker.

I'm actually surprised Gasquet has a 4-1 H2H lead vs. Davydenko as in theory, Davydenko's game should trouble Gasquet a lot, given the latter's big backswings and standing miles behind the baseline. Anyway, at this point Richard is a much better player but the match will still be cool to see.

Agreed on those 2 first matches, Broken. Definitely potentially good matches. I hope Davydenko puts in a good performance. No idea how he'll handle the heat given he doesn't/can't train as hard as he used to in his prime.

Tursunov v Istomin and Janowicz v Andujar might be good too. Tursunov's playing well since his comeback from injury and Istomin probably is playing the best tennis he's played of late.

15 Aussies started out in singles. Only 6 are left now. 3 Men and 3 Women.
All three Men are unseeded player playing seeded players in 2nd round.

Samantha Stosur is the best AUssie hope at this time. This is strange considering
she usually fizzles out at home.

The third match on Court 6 features Dominic Thiem, the young Austrian with the unusual coach, Sepp Resnik, who Moxie and johnsteinbeck introduced us to a few months ago in this thread:

For those in the US, ESPN3 will show the match online. Others will hopefully be able to find an online stream.

I reckon Pironkova will beat her later.

You are right. I didn't check who she was playing.

It looks like there will be NO AUSSIES left in the 3rd round at this time. So,
the scheduling can go back to regular one starting from 3rd round without any
jingoism.

The Aussies are better. They last one full round more than UK - Andy.

Thanks for highlighting that one, tented! I'll check them out. I hope the coach is there and we get a peek at him. :)

Great start for Kolya. Terrible for Gasquet. 40-0 up and loses his serve.

Love the pace Davydenko creates. Very frenetic fast hitting for an old fart. In tennis terms.

Gasquet has turned it up. I'll be surprised if Davy can keep up his old level, esp. in the heat.

Hope Davydenko manages to win this one. Actually reckon he's in with a chance if he concentrates on hitting to Gasquet's forehand. If he lets him rip the backhand during rallies he's toast.

In this heat given his age though it's pretty much imperative Davydenko wins the first set. Might get ugly fast if he drops this set.
