Another solid TB gives MIlos a 2-0 lead. He is using a lot of slice today.

If Milos needs two tie breaker sets against a guy whose name I have not heard of, then it
does not bode well for Milos.

Players can improve in form from one match to another. I'm not a believer in Raonic being a future GS champion or anything but it's not uncommon for someone to not play great in the first match of the tournament. I don't expect much from Milos on this surface and I don't think he'll handle the heat well but this is no big deal.

Almagro stood up but Nishikori has hit another level as a player. It seems that he learned how to win matches playing bellow par. I'm pretty sure he is part of the top 8 landscape for good.

Pouille solidly beating Monfils, who hits an acrobatic shot here and there. Good player this kid.

Hewitt wins his OR, defeats Zhang (China) in four. Also comfortable wins for Big John Isner and David Ferrer. Lleyton's next opponent will be Benjamin Becker, the battle of the 33 year olds.

My darkhorse choice Monfils is back in it. I thought he was a goner but he might pull this one out.

scheduling on Laver is ridiculous today - a night session with ATP #s 87 vs 187, WTA 67 vs 76, just because there's Aussies playing. I'd want my money back, former #1 or not.

Most in attendance are more than likely perfectly happy with that choice though. Hewitt is still a crowd favorite at the Australian Open.

Monfils takes it 6-4 in the 5th. That was close.

My Lord, it's gotta be pure torture being a huge fan of his. This guy is the pure definition of playing down or up to the level of his competition. I really would like to see an in-depth interview with Gael to see why does he consistently do this. What a waste of a talent. I am not saying it to bash him because he gets enough of that on these boards which at times is very unfair but sometimes it's very deserving. What a pure enigma.

Doesn't ESPN give you some alternative matches ?

BTW Aussie, Aussie ,Aussie. Ooi, Ooi, Ooi. A new renaissance of Aussies will give this sport a much needed shot in the arm :clap:clap:clap

I wonder what may happen if one or two reach the third round...

Solid win for Popsicle and another bad loss for Dolgopolov.

Poor Dolgopolov, he had a couple of good months last year but he is very inconsistent besides to have a game unorthodoxy, he doesn't know where his shots go, his opponents don't know what to expect from him

Kei really got the crappiest draw of all the contenders. Almagro, Ferrer 4th round, Stan QF and then Novak in the semis.

Anyways, Novak and kei looked okay today. Let's hope the first week goes rather smoothly.
