I'm still rooting for Sakkari, but have switched over to Rafa.

Jessica breaks early, in the 2nd set, love the way she is re-directing,especially on Maria's serve, seems she has the momentum at present
Pegula consolidates her break and leads 4-1 2nd set....Maria making far too many UFE
Jessica made the q/finals of the AO last year..

Well done to Jessica Pegula defeating Maria Sakkari 76(0) 63
Jessica has a great re direction of shots, she also hampered the fhand wing of Maria with great results
Maria made too many UFE in the match and her serve was found wanting in importants moments of the match especially in the 1st set t/break
Jessica will play the winner of the Barty-Anisimova match in the q/finals.

Ash Barty got a break in the 7th game and went onto win the 1st set 64
Anisimova had the trainer out, towards the end of the 1st set,leg problem seems okay.

Barty winners 11 UFE 9
Amanda winners 11 UFE 19

Ash Barty defeats Amanda Anisimova 64 63 to move into the q/finals where she will play Jessica Pegula
I would to shout out to Amanda, she has come back from injuries and also losing a special person in her life her dad who was her coach. She made Ash earn this win.I truly hope Amanda and Darren Cahill have a ongoing coaching arrangement.

Another player i never saw or heard of before, but oh what a player. Amanda looked like she was going to win the second where she was serving 40-15 at 3 games all. She missed a easy smash and from there was never the same and committed a few easy errors. Look forward to seeing more of the american-russian player in 2022.

Well done to Barbora Krejcikova a well played match,as I expected this would be a tough 'match up' for Azarenka.
Krejcikova d Azarenka 62 62!
Krejcikova will play Madison Keys next in the q/finals
AW Margaret :facepalm:I did not see this game at all but believed that Vika would prevail. So she injured her neck during the match , is that right? That's not to take anything away from Barbora Krejcikova.

Correct, though that was in the 2nd set.Barbora proved too strong overall, outplayed Vika from the get go.

Indeed Amanda was a child tennis prodigy, she has a strong first strike game of tennis, just experience let her down in important points in the match.Hopefully going forward we will see more of Amanda, she is one talented young lady

Round of 16
Bottom half of the draw,

Rod Laver Arena....11.00am AEDT

E.Mertens (19) vs D.Colllins (27)
H2H 1 all.....I did suggest Elise bring a pair of ear muffs to this match.,also Collins is a type of player that is 'in your face' most of the time:)

Not before 1pm,

S.Halep (14) vs A.Cornet
H2H Cornet 3-1 Cornet though the last time they met was back in Madrid in 2015.I picking Halep to win

Margaret Court Arena Day Session not before 5.30pm.

I Swiatek (7) vs S.Cristea......first meeting.Cirstea has been one of the surprise packets this year at the AO,playing good solid tennis, Cristea, though she will have her hands full with Swiatek.

Rod Laver Arena Night session starting at 7.00pm AEDT
Women's match follows the men's match

A.Sabalenka (2) vs K.Kanepi
H2H 1-0 Kanepi....Kanepi has proven to be a 'giant killer' especially in GS,Sabalenka has to improve her overall game and 'that serve' is still giving her problems.

At least one American woman has advanced to the quarter final of the AO every years since 2015.

Yesterday at the AO there were some tennis fans wearing tee shirts...Where is Peng Shaui, they were asked to remove the shirts by security guards.I thought in Australia they allowed free speech....not like if you were living in China?
Sad state of affairs is Peng Shaui has still not be heard of since early November.
