Tsonga meets Bautista Agut in the semi with Ferrer and Sock to decide who meets the winner in the final.

As reported by Margaret in the WTA section, the Sydney Open is in a mess due to weather.

All four quarter finals need to be completed today AND the mens semi finals.

(8) Alexandr Dolgopolov vs. (4) Grigor Dimitrov 6-4, 3-6, 2-4
(3) Viktor Troicki vs. Nicolas Mahut 2-2
(6) Jeremy Chardy vs. Gilles Muller 6-7(5), 0-0
(1) Bernard Tomic vs. Teymuraz Gabashvili

Not ideal for AO preparation.

It looks like Troicki is through, and Tomic withdrew.  Wonder if he's injured, or just holding off for the AO.

Nope. he was upset by Bautista Agut and so was Ferrer by Jack Sock.

Sock and Agut in the final.

In Sydney the final will be Troicki against Dimitrov

Oops I posted this in the wrong thread.  Sock had to retire due to flu like symptoms so Roberto Bautista Agut won in Auckland.

I don't give Viktor much chances, he's played a lot of tennis in short period of time, but I'll be cheering for him, while I sleep.  :)

Darn it if you play, darn if you don't play so close to a major.  Hopefully it was just precautionary for Tomic,  Sock also had to retire in Auckland.

Shame about Sock.  Still, good title for Bautista Agut.

Sock had flu and that is too sad after a couple of good wins against Anderson and Ferrer.
I checked in in yesterday for a few games and Jack was hardly moving, bending over after each point like he finished the marathon and netting almost every shot.

It's probably a good thing in some ways.  We want these guys fit for the AO.  I'm happy to see players "semi-tank" in these circumstances and just go through the motions of completing the match.  I wonder if the scheduling might be adjusted a little next year.

Troicki defeated Dimitrov: 2-6, 6-1, 7-6.

Once again a dissapointing outcome for Grigor.  What else is knew.

But good for Viktor to defend his title in Sydney

I watched the first half of the match.  Dimitrov was so impressive in the first set, and then he went completely flat.  Troicki broke him immediately in the 2nd.  At 4-1, I quit.  @mrzz and I were discussing Dimitrov in another thread.  For me, I get thrilled by the talent, and then disgusted by the lack of ability to keep it up.  He was about to take a lot of momentum into the AO, and then he lost it.  I'm happy for Victor, though.

I think Dimitrov read my posts and did not want to give me time to jump in his bandwagon.
