I'm glad you seen all those matches. I wish I'd seen Pete so many times. Murray? Can take it or leave it.

You're wrong to place Murray ahead of Pete, point blank....

Not all of those were matches, many practice sessions.

I need to be clear..Murray is not "ahead" of Sampras. His game is just more modern
visceral. Murray has centuries to go before he is held in the same regard as Sampras historically.

Yeah?

You're still wrong! :p

On Tennis Channel's World Of Tennis round table, their was a consensus Murray is far behind mentally Nadal and Joker, and Roger circa 2011/2012. They come into every slam EXPECTING to win the panel said, where Murray does not.

In the accompanying interview with Justin Gimelstob, Murray admits he does not have fun on the court, much of the time. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Attitude? Sorry Ashley Fisher was right.

Then you're definitely wrong about Murray being one of the four greatest tennis players who ever lived - and about him being a "hairs breath" behind Nadal and Federer... :nono

The margins are so, so, so, so, so small. He is a hairs breath behind them..they set the bar so absurdly high..well you know the rest.:D

How many slams would Murray have if not for the other 3?

If he's only a hair away, he'd be only a hair behind in slam count. Muzza is a year younger than Ralphy.

You can't have it both ways, by showing a huge difference between them and Murray psychologically - and yet still claim he's only a hair away from Fedal. I disagree with the article at this time, and I think it last applied two years ago, before Murray won the US Open...

Sure the thread still says we'll never know how good any Murray is and, well, we still know that Andy Murray is good so it's wrong already :D

I know this is a bit tongue in cheek but yeah, I agree.

We know he's really good, we know what he excels at, we know what he doesn't do that well, etc...

Yup. 2 slams says he's pretty good. In fact even better than Nalbandian though it pains me to say so and likely cali too, though he may disagree even with the 2 slams versus zip :p

Nalbandian's problem isn't that he wasn't good enough, it's that he wasn't enough of a catholic (if you didn't read that thread, you won't get the reference).

Well, I will suggest another variable. PTSD. The kid survived the massacre in his school when he was a kid. And I still think that affects him in pressure situations. I try to remember that when I have to endure watching him with his antics on court. It keeps me from throwing things at my TV.

That is an interesting angle for sure. I am no psychologist, but is there a chance the reverse effect could also come into play? Meaning, can he tell himself " Look, I have been through much worse, this is just a tennis match?" and calm himself down? Like I said, I am no expert but it kinda makes sense , no?

You would think so right?! But there are times especially in the big matches where he would go blank, he looked as though he was walking through a fog. And I figure the swearing, the grabbing one leg (or the other when he forgets), is all part and parcel of trying to stay connected. Cause when he hits that void, he doesn't swear, doesn't carry the running conversation with himself.... he's just - blank.

^ Could be bipolar too. Like my cat for instance. One minute asleep on my lap while I'm on the laptop and the next she decides to bite me pretty damn viciously for no reason. Comparing Andy to a cat but there ya go :D He seems to have a bit of a split personality as you say. One minute calm and the next shouting his head off. Maybe he just struggles to hold back the anger. He does a better job than in the past but still prone to outbursts. It's early yet but the cat will still bite me later for sure !

Iona is the one major part I really, really like about Andy. When he wins, the thought of her being pleased makes me smile.

The other thing I like is when he does play aggressive tennis - he can run an opponent around the court like few I've seen, and pull the trigger at will. It's beautiful when he chooses to do it.

I know it's off topic, but I thought it good to say something nice about the guy. :)
