The Tournament:

The Apia International Sydney is one of the oldest tournaments in the world, dating back to 1885.

The Sydney Cricket Ground was the first venue for what was then called the New South Wales Open, followed by Double Bay and then White City, which hosted the event for 76 years through 1999. In 2000, the event moved to the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre, which also hosted the Olympic tennis event that year, and where the combined ATP/WTA event continues to be held the week before the Australian Open. About Sydney

Sydney, state capital of New South Wales and Australia's largest city, is known for its iconic landmarks such as the harbour bridge and Opera House, with its distinctive sail-like design.

Darling Harbour and the smaller Circular Quay port are hubs of waterside life, with the arched Harbour Bridge and esteemed Royal Botanic Garden nearby. Sydney Tower’s outdoor platform, the Skywalk, offers 360-degree views of the city and suburbs.

Located on the east coast, the population of the city stands at just under 5 million and the metropolis sprawls towards the Blue Mountains to the west.

Residents of Sydney are known as "Sydneysiders". Sydney is the second official seat and second official residence of the Governor-General of Australia and the Prime Minister of Australia and many federal ministries maintain substantial presences in Sydney.

Elina Svitolina has withdrawn, so Caroline Wozniacki takes the open spot and an additional Qualifier/Lucky Loser goes into the draw.

Pliskova also withdrew citing a thigh injury after the final in Brisbane,to me she did not need to play Sydney, seeing the AO starts soon.

Bouchard beats Zhang... it's about time Genie started putting some results together to justify her social media standing. Will she amount to anything more than Anna Kournikova?
