The Tournament:

The Apia International Sydney is one of the oldest tournaments in the world, dating back to 1885.

The Sydney Cricket Ground was the first venue for what was then called the New South Wales Open, followed by Double Bay and then White City, which hosted the event for 76 years through 1999. In 2000, the event moved to the Sydney Olympic Park Tennis Centre, which also hosted the Olympic tennis event that year, and where the combined ATP/WTA event continues to be held the week before the Australian Open. About Sydney

Sydney, state capital of New South Wales and Australia's largest city, is known for its iconic landmarks such as the harbour bridge and Opera House, with its distinctive sail-like design.

Darling Harbour and the smaller Circular Quay port are hubs of waterside life, with the arched Harbour Bridge and esteemed Royal Botanic Garden nearby. Sydney Tower’s outdoor platform, the Skywalk, offers 360-degree views of the city and suburbs.

Located on the east coast, the population of the city stands at just under 5 million and the metropolis sprawls towards the Blue Mountains to the west.

Residents of Sydney are known as "Sydneysiders". Sydney is the second official seat and second official residence of the Governor-General of Australia and the Prime Minister of Australia and many federal ministries maintain substantial presences in Sydney.

I don't think they are predicting a stampede for Mahut's autographs... 15 minutes to Bouchard's 60.

^^ I didn't even notice that. :lol6:

Did Dominator play last week anywhere? Let's hope he doesn't overdo it and doesn't run out of steam early in the season from playing too much early on.

Thiem? He played in Brisbane, and has a loaded schedule, which, as I mentioned in its own thread, I think is perhaps a mistake.

Thanks Moxie, sorry I missed that post. I am trying to catch up with everything, we had guests and internet wasn't high on the priority list this past week.

Oh, no worries, doll. I'm just saying, like you, I'm not sure Thiem has got the scheduling thingy down.

Yeah, even if he lost early, it's the travel and hustle that take something out of everybody. Thiem really needs to be smarter with scheduling.

Fabio has a tough first round against Kohli.

Edmund is out - beaten by an Aussie qualifier Matthew Barton 7/6 7/6. Kohli and Fog are out there now.

Thiem is a good replacement for Davydenko. If there is an event somewhere scheduled, he is in.
