The story of the Aegon International at Devonshire Park in Eastbourne could not be told without Martina Navratilova. She captured the tournament an astonishing 11 times, the second-most times any player has won a WTA event behind Navratilova's 12 titles in Chicago. She also was victorious in the Eastbourne doubles six times with Pam Shriver. Other all-time greats who took the title here include Tracy Austin, Kim Clijsters, Lindsay Davenport, Chris Evert, Justine Henin, Monica Seles and Virginia Wade.

Devonshire Park is Eastbourne's oldest park and has hosted lawn tennis since the 1870s. It has been used as a local tennis facility, venue for a number of Davis Cup ties and facility for the AEGON International since the event's inception in 1974.

Situated in the heart of Eastbourne among trees and gardens, the park is only minutes away from the town center and seafront, making it an ideal summer setting for the event. For many players, it serves as the final tune-up for Wimbledon, which gets underway the following week and is about a two-hour drive away.

The draw is out - here it is

All tourneys are called Aegon; very confusing! :puzzled

As BNP is a big sponsor of tennis this is a sponsor for British tennis. Here is a little about Aegon:

At a glance

Aegon is one of the world's leading providers of life insurance, pensions and asset management. Their Dutch roots date back to 1844. Today, they have operations in over 20 countries, including the USA where we're known as Transamerica.

Aegon's History

Aegon's history dates back over 170 years, however Aegon as we know it today was founded in 1983 following the merger of two Dutch insurance companies, AGO and Ennia. Today, Aegon is one of the top-10 largest insurance companies in the world.

Seems Caroline is on the right track although I didn't watch the match as Tennis TV had decided to show a qualifying match on court 1 - have they lost their mind :laydownlaughing

Are the stats real? It says both players had 0 UFE. I have never seen any match in which neither player makes an unforced error, much less on the WTA tour.

I am sure there is something wrong here.

You might be right so I deleted it, but Caroline delivered a good match as you can see from this part of a match review from a local reporter connected to the Eastbourne tournament:

Caroline Wozniacki returned to Eastbourne’s Centre Court in style, swiftly dismissing Alize Cornet – a last-gasp replacement in the main draw – in straight sets.

With the sun blazing down here at Devonshire Park, it was the former world #1 who shone to bag a comfortable 6-1 6-3 triumph.

Wozniacki was recently stunned on Nottingham’s Aegon Open but bounced back with a solid all-round game to dismiss the French ace.

The great Dane is arguably the Centre Court’s favourite player after claiming the Eastbourne crowd in 2009 as a fresh-faced star and defeating France’s Virginie Razzano.

And sure enough Wozniacki was greeted with loud cheers on Centre Court, and lived up to her build-up by the tannoy by whipping shot after shot past luckless Cornet to seal the opening set.

Wozniacki continued to grow in confidence to destroy Cornet, a regular visitor to Devonshire Park in preparation for Wimbledon, who stepped in on Friday night in place of American Sloane Stephens.

Wozniacki said among other things after the match:

Wozniacki admitted: “I feel confident on my feet, I’ve worked really hard to get into the best shape possible and do a lot of stability work.

“So now I’m feeling comfortable on my ankle and on the grass, which means I’m excited every time I go on court now.”

“And it’s so nice to be on a nice court with a great crowd and also to get another match in before going to Wimbledon.”

Here is another one who watched the match - contains some nice pictures from the match too:

Some good matches tomorrow. Mladenovic/Timea, Cibby/Ostapenko, and Caro should get through that match as Stosur is not good on grass.

The link I gave a while ago still works even if you think it doesn't:

http://videostream.dn.ua/videopage/videoPage.php?g=OTcxOTY%E2%84%96f&c=en&i=eWl2bW9iZGlzaA%E2%84%96f%E2%84%96f

The trick is that you have to grab the border of the screen and minimize it vertically 1 mm from the right of your screen then your matches return - it wasn't that difficult was it?
