The Premier competition will take place at Memorial Drive Tennis Centre and is the inaugural running of the tournament, which is also an ATP 250 event that includes Novak Djokovic.

About Adelaide:

The City of Adelaide, also known as the Corporation of the City of Adelaide and Adelaide City Council (ACC) is a local government area in the metropolitan area of greater Adelaide, South Australia and is legally defined as the capital city of South Australia by the City of Adelaide Act 1998. It includes the Adelaide city centre, North Adelaide, and the Adelaide Park Lands which surround North Adelaide and the city centre.

Established in 1840, the City of Adelaide Municipal Corporation was the first municipal authority in Australia. At its time of establishment, Adelaide's (and Australia's) first mayor, James Hurtle Fisher, was elected. From 1919 onwards, the municipality has had a Lord Mayor, as of 2019 being Sandy Verschoor, who replaced Martin Haese in 2018.

Petra Kvitova has withdrawn (thankfully sense prevailed) moves Angie Kerber into the seeded ranks No 9 seed.
Kerber will play Wang Qiana and her original opponent Sloane Stephens will face qualifier Arina Rodionova.

Well done to Aussie Q Rodionova defeated Sloane Stephens 62 62.....Sloane's fhand went AWOL,Rodionova serve was on song,a well deserved victory!

Sloane has been defeated in her first match here in Adelaide and also Brisbane, not a good start especially when the AO starts next week,at times she just looked disinterested.

Sloane starts the year with two losses to players outside the top 100.

Ash like in Brisbane is having trouble on her bhand wing, also her ROS needs to improve.
Pavs is one of the cleanest strikers of the ball in the WTA,though her usual down fall is her high UFE count, questionable shot selections, though she is playing consistent tennis and deserved the 1st set 64,with some power full winners.

Ash wins the 2nd set 63,much improved 1st serve percentage, she seems more steady in her overall game,UFE was the downfall for Pavs in the 2nd set 5 W to 11 UFE.Going to a decider.

A lot of momentum swings in the final set.Pavs was down a double break and fought her way back to 5all,good controlled aggressive tennis, taking the ball on inside the baseline, pushing Ash back.Ash finally took the 3rd set 75 on her third attempt, not a great win, though she found a win to way,Pavs can be a dangerous player when she is 'on' as Ash found out.

Barty d Pavlyucnenkova 46 63 75.

Yastremska has won the 1st set 63 over Kerber,a good display of controlled aggressive tennis by the youngster.
Yastremsla broke Kerber in her opening service game of the 2nd set,and has consolidated the break leads 2-0
Kerber has just asked for the trainer on the next changeover. It appears Kerber has a back problem, play stopped on Kerber's service game, where Yastremska has love 30 on her serve.Trainer on court for Kerber,Kerber retires sad to see, though with the AO starting next week a wise decision,Kerber was very stiff in her movements.

Yastremska wins by retirement 63 2-0 over Kerber.

Danielle Collins too much over all over power for Sofia Kenin wins the 1st set 63.
6 games in a row now for Collins who breaks Kenin early in the 2nd set ,leads 4-0 just one way traffic in the 2nd set.
Double break for Collins who will serve for the match 5-0,Danielle is having one of 'those' days everything she touches is turns to gold.
Okay I think I just hexed Collins who was serving for the match and was broken, her serve let her down.Kenin on the score board in the 2nd set,Collins leads 5-1.
Great returning from Collins and wins the match 63 61....A most impressive performance from Danielle today.

Official reason for Kerber's retirement was not her back according to my commentators on the match it was a left hamstring injury, she was stiff in her movements in the match.Hopefully she can fully recover for the AO.
