BTW if Fritz can win his SF match over FAA he will bump Novak out of the 4th position in the rankings for the week, Fritz loses 100pt from Queens last year
Fritz has been serving well in the Boss tournament so far this week.

I was incorrect about Justin Engel (who lost to FAA in the QF today). He's actually played in 4 ATP level events now, one in 2024 and three in 2025. He won his first match in 2024 (Almaty) and is now 4-4 overall. Not a bad start for a 17-year old.

Engel was competitive today against FAA even though he lost,

Losing to a super-tall guy in 2 tiebreaks can be a coin flip and bad luck. But Medvedev should have broken him, right? It's hard to know what to make of Medvedev these days. Maybe he really doesn't care enough, anymore.

Well if Meddy didnt stand back to return in the 1st row of the stands it will be helpful, he should have moved up on the 2nd serve, also with such a tall tree he should have moved him around the court more?
Agree he really dosent care anymore and wont change the glaring holes in his game

Medvedev proved a little success "means nothing!" All that talent & he might as well retire w/ his time probably "past it!" Back in 2021, he was the only obstacle I thought blocked Djokovic completing his CYGS! He was already exhausted traveling to Japan for the Olympics just weeks before the USO! I'm pretty sure I posted here & elsewhere, "someone needs to upset Daniil" or Novak wasn't going to get it! It couldn't get much worse as the Medvedev not only won the USO, but annihilated Novak in straight sets! What a time for Lost Gen. II to be/get found as they finally broke thru in a major taking out a member of the Big 3! Thiem's win the previous yr. was facilitated by Djoker's DQ for accidently striking a lines-woman w/ a ball!

I'd be curious for a more in-depth analysis. Medvedev had something that upset the apple cart for a little while. Enough to get him a Major when not many out of the top 3/4 were getting them. And he made the final of two others. Not the best serve for a tall guy, but a very idiosyncratic game. And temperament. Tends to hang way back behind the baseline, but can be all over the court. Another player once referred to him as an octopus. But it doesn't seem to be working for him anymore. Loss of belief? Lack of interest? Or did the other players just cop to his gambit, and it doesn't work anymore?

Players have worked out how to defeat Meddy simple as that, gone are the days he used to be an octopus
A example is Meddy had a winning H2H 6-0 over Sinner from 2020 till 2023 and Sinner turned that around to having a 8-7 H2H over Meddy
Meddy hasnt won a title since 2023? Rome to be exact
If that dosent raise alarm bells that his overall game has spiraled well to me it has, he dosent appear to want to change.

And I don't suspect he'll play the full week. Probably 2 matches and withdraw or lose gracefully
But why? Is he carrying a niggling injury? Otherwise, it’s not going to harm his Wimbledon chances if he goes all the way. This three week gap is a boon for FO champs…

He seems to be in a very low mood, doesn’t he? He’s definitely spiralling and it’s a pity to see, because he’s so far off being a contender, is scary. Bloke has a great game but mentally? He’s Russian…

I always felt Medvedev’s game was a variation of dogged counterpunching with power mixed in, IOW a not particularly efficient style ( he has to be practically hogtied to get to net) but very effective because of his focus.

Losing his laser like focus and the game becomes a bit untidy, seems he puts a lot of work with that style with diminishing returns.

BTW Bergs defeated the Tall Tree in the SF 61 64, Meddy might want to look at that SF and see how Bergs defeated him with ease!
Another good result for the Candian Diallo in the SF defeated Humbert 63 76(4) at the Libema Open
Both players are playing for their first ATP Tour Title!

Novak Djokovic on his plans,
" The only thing I currently have in my vision, the only thing that gives me motivation, is the 2028 Olympics in Los Angles" ( via social media)
Okay then :)
