Elena Rybakina wins 46 63 63 against Danielle Collins, not an easy opponent in any opening match, but Elena fights from a set and a break down to win the match
in Abu Dhabi Open.

Krejcikova wins by retirement 62 1-0 over Sorribes Tormo

Another egregious choke job (after the loss to Iga at the AO) by DRC.
Once again choking away a match with a Grand Slam champ on the ropes.

I would not call it a 'choke job; if you look at their H2H Elena has won in 3 sets recently over Collins, she leads their H2H 3-1, I thought this match would go the distance, 'choke is not a word' I would use for this match.,Elena lifted her game, Collins has been playing good ball of late, Collins is retiring at the end of the year, as she wants to start a family.

Again I stumbled over an exiting match - the longest so far in 2024 - 3h 42 minutes!! How can Haddad be so fresh? She also had a very long match in 2023 and she's not relaxing - she's gonna play doubles too!

She was busted for doping a few years ago. Might be back micro dosing on something.

Well no picture or stats from Claras match. Why - because the tournament has no hawkeye and no videoplayback. Oh it's in Romania - well things will go wrong. Am I wrong? I saw Erranis match yesterday and linejudges were so so. I saw at least two long balls and at least one a "little" broad. WTA tournaments no matter where should have at least a possibillity to video check a ball - but not in ROmania - shame on WTA. OK Clara was not playing well and Christian had the spectators.

Results SFs, Abu Dhabi,

A very tense match Kastakina v Haddad Maia with Daria winning in 3 sets 63 46 76(2), ( Bea has played 13 hours so far in this tournament and still has to play doubles semis later)

A 2nd final this year for Elena Rybakina 60 46 62 over Samsonova, a player who had always beaten her in their 4 previous meetings

Apparently Ons Jabeur knee is giving her grief again, the reason she was in tears in her QF match against Haddad Maia yesterday
Jabeur will get a medical opinion, again, in her busy schedule.Ons being healthy is the most important thing, if you have to take time off the tour and get your knee fixed that should be your main priority.

Da Body vs Plisbot..I don't see what's so difficult to defeat PlisBot..just make her move . She isn't as disciplined and consistent as Davenport who had a similar game. Is this correct or am I missing something

The first WTA100 Doha, has started with Stephens, Gracheva, Maria, Dolehide, Kudermetova and Vekic all out in straight sets.

Swiatek and Gauff are the 2 tops seeds, with Swiatek the defending champion,
Emma Raducanu has a WC and will face Kalinina in the 1st round and could meet Ostapenko in 2nd round
Osaka and Garcia meet again tomorrow, can Osaka turn the tables on Garcia and win

Barbora Krejcikova withdrew ( back injury) before her 1st round match in Doha and was replaced by LL Martina Trevisan, Trevisan played against Potapova and lost 64 64.
Emma Raducanu wild card lost in straight sets to Kalinina 60 76(6) although Emma improved in the 2nd set, I feel she needs to play lower tier tournaments, she needs match play, coming back from surgery, Emma said she wont play Dubai, going straight home, needs more practice in outdoor conditions

In the rematch of the 1st round at the AO, Osaka revenges her loss to Garcia, winning in straights sets 75 64, her movement has improved, Garcia was serving for the 1st set 5-4, broken, Osaka winning 75, went onto win the match.
