I think there’s no pressure because it’s reported that they went through a consultation process, they also checked the legality of the move, etc, and then they decided. I don’t know why the NYT said the government applied pressure. I’m not - by the way - saying there was no pressure. I just haven’t seen any evidence of that. If there’s evidence of it, then that’s not a good thing.

I think this is a mistake by the AELTC and the LTA, and unfortunately the British government and opposition applaud it, which is not a good development. I don’t see it as British nationalism either. The UK have been good on the war so far, and I read that they’re also looking at some exports from the Xinjiang region from China, due to the obvious human rights abuses there against the Uighur Muslims. I think this kind of thinking is long overdue in the west. Nothing to do with tennis! But possibly revealing an examination of ethics and how they want to deal with tyrants, which is reflected in their support for Ukraine, and their support for the AELTC and the LTA.

I think of course that they’re wrong in this instance, but I place the blame on the LTA and AELTC, who, by the way, have also said they consulted the relevant international tennis authorities, presumably the ITF, the ATP and the WTA. Legally, as we’ve seen from a previous post, they may still have left an open goal for any challenge.

As for the woke remark, I didn’t mean that they’re acting from a woke mentality, but that they’re doing the same as woke people who try to cancel somebody for the most spurious reasons. I don’t even think the AELTC and LTA are acting PC - I just think they’ve gotten caught up in the horrible brouhaha and overestimated themselves with regards to how they can help Ukraine.

Hopefully an adult in the room there will speak to them soon…
Hopefully an adult in the room there will speak to them soon…

if there is one in the room in Moscow, that adult needs to take a steak knife to Putin's neck. If the world thinks that Ukraine is his "ONLY " objective, then the world isn't really paying attention.

Absolutely, brother. The missus is from Lithuania and on my first visit there over twenty years ago they were talking about Putin and the threat he posed. They’re now on high alert. Our nephew is in the Lithuanian army, patrolling the border with Belarus, because they’re always up to something, with illegal border crossings into Lithuania and Poland. Factor in also the descendants of the Hitler-Stalin Pact, the Russians born in the Baltic states, who we’ve heard now are murmuring complaints that they feel unsafe. Music to the tyrants ears. Of course, they’d never live in Russia, they’re not crazy, but they do love their great leader from afar.

This situation most likely won’t end with diplomacy…

It looks we will get a Tsisipas-Alcaraz Clay court match later today. It will be interesting how this match will fare on Clay court.
That’s gonna be the match of the tournament. Tsitsipas might prevail this time, but it’ll tell us even more about Carlos...

I wonder will it get to be as cantankerous as the earlier match with Norrie? I wasn't watching, but heard it was getting rancorous with the players! Norrie was pulling a "Hewitt" with "come on's" when his opponent made an UFE! That's so tacky, but Nadal does it too! Few are immune to the behavior for the most part! :face-with-hand-over-mouth: :shushing-face: :face-with-tears-of-joy::facepalm:

Bro, you are 100 percent correct. PREACH..it appears every 70-80 years the world is dealing with a madman's ONLY objective is to carry out Satanic havoc on the citizens of the world. No this isn't gonna end with diplomacy. Very well stated my brother.

Not a chance! Russia's already out there on an island by themselves with most if not all countries sticking with embargos to them! It's unfortunate that some leaders abuse their power! No country is immune to it; just look at the States! Trump was about as insane, but still has rabid support by many who don't know any better! It has nothing to do with intelligence or even common sense! My ex-roommate from college is a Mensa member, but he proudly wears a Trump T-shirt! They follow these crazies because they speak their language! They like being separate from others; a higher level of racism that's pretty disgusting in this era we're living in! You'd think it would be part of the past, but the world is going backwards when it comes to equal rights and access! You can pass all the laws you want, but if states or countries don't GAF, you'll need to go thru a protracted legal battle to deal with the situation! :astonished-face::shushing-face::facepalm:

See what you started AELTC. And I'll add to that I may have to rethink future visits to any tournament or country that supports the banning of players. Not that my lack of tourism $$ would hurt either country but if enough people feel the way I do...

Agree, I wonder if the French government would also think of banning Russian and Belarus players at Roland Garos this year? there is a up coming election in France and Macron is not very popular.

If Putin bombs another hospital or school it might happen! Outrageous behavior begets more outrageous behavior! That's the way of the world! ;)

This kind of thing can get out of hand very quickly. Smacks of bullish virtue signalling. The bolded bit there - the IOC advocate that individuals play under an IOC flag, they don’t advocate a total ban, right?

I’ve yet to see any justification of this that outlines how it’ll affect Putin, and that’s all that matters. It’s actually counter-productive, from that perspective…

Alcaraz wins the first set, but Tsitsipas nearly takes his head off in the process.

Carlos up the double-break in the 2nd. He's taking the Greek apart.
