I think that was tented called that out as an option. Once he got broken, he's really been deflated can't seem to get it back. He's a bundle of nerves. Can't you tell? Mox depicted this correctly. He's having a letdown after defeating his idol.
Sorry T.Yep, that’s what I predicted yesterday.
This was tented's prediction yesterday. It really does feel like HH ran out of emotional gas at the first sign of trouble. Granted, Berrettini is playing just great. but it was an evenly matched contest for about 8 games. Looked like we were going to tuck into a long one.I’m mainly curious how Hurkacz will be after taking down his idol. How many times have we seen someone take down one of the Big Three, only to lose in the next round? I’m going with Berrettini in 4.
Matteo in the first couple of games looked tight to me,probably nervous energy, then he relaxed and got into his gameThis was tented's prediction yesterday. Mox,I think you could also possibly attribute it to the fact that they are really good friends.
Matteo has been to a SF of a Major before, and he is, as Margaret points out, on a great win streak, and, let's face it, if HH had faced a better Roger, he'd be gone. Like most of us, I have limited exposure to Hurkacz, and he seemed to find his more aggressive game v. Medvedev, after the overnight. He's lucky to have been off the court so quickly today. I think he'll feel the nerves more, and retreat a bit early, like he did v. Medvedev. But maybe he'll go for broke. Not always a great strategy. HH is going to look to control the net. Let's see how much nerve he has to do it. Berrettini is quick, for a big guy. I went for Berrettini in 4.
Maybe those carbs will give him some energy for the 3rd set.I feel for Hubie he needs a big hug ......after the match of course
Matteo serves him a bagel
Yes, but you can get past nerves. This feels much more like an emotional hangover from his last match.Mox,
This is your post from yesterday. You mentioned nerves too. You're both right in your assessments.
Don't give up on him yet. He could still make it competitive. Matteo has trouble closing at times. What was that? 10 or 11 games in a row? I should have voted Berrettini in 3.
Maybe it's both. He has never been in this position before. Remember how Matteo was when he played Rog in 2019? He was like a deer in headlights. He got spanked on CC.Yes, but you can get past nerves. This feels much more like an emotional hangover from his last match.
