Dominic Thiem has withdrawn from the Australian Open ( lack of preparation). He intends to return to tour playing tournaments on clay in South America in late January.
it makes sense.. As i mentioned a few weeks back, guys like Dominic and Rafa needs just a bit more on the court time to build their confidence and timing. The clay is the perfect surface but I dont want Rafa to follow suit. not this upcoming AO

Marga, if you are around, is it true what a Serbian newspaper says about the AO Organization is asking the authorities to allow Novak to play even if he is not vaccinated giving him a medical exemption even he doesn't suffer any of it?

Hi Carol! I saw that on Twitter....don't take any notice okay.Craig Tiley,CEO of Tennis Australia has stated that to his knowledge No tennis player has asked for a 'medical exemption' to play AO in 2022.,also he hasn't the power to issue any medical exemptions or the power to ask for one on behalf of any player.,there are strict medical protocols in place for any player to received a exemption to play.,they have to go through the proper channel's to receive one.

Thanks Marga for that good information and honesty I can't understand why Novak is still with such silly secrecy

Well he has the right not disclose that is his decision.,if vaccinated he has to show proof on arrival to authorities in Australia and have had a PCR test within 24 hours of arrival testing negative to COVID-19.

Agreed..Novak should keep his status to himself and should not be forced to disclose until December 27, 2022

Totally agree that he has the right not to disclose, as a normal citizen, but as #1 in the world, and as one who went on record over 18 months ago as not sure if he'd play tennis if there were a vaccine mandate, he's helped make himself an object of scrutiny. And he may well be having a crisis of conscience over what to do, but dates on the calendar are what they are, and he should just say what he's doing, and not contribute to the over-heated drama of it. He hasn't even withdrawn from ATP Cup yet, and I suppose he's not even in Australia yet, or we'd know. ATP Cup starts in a few days. It's more drama than is needed. At least he could say he's not playing ATP cup. FFS.

I understand that he has the right not disclose that is his decision but he is helping to build more and more speculations. If he is not vaccinated, ok, he won't play the AO which I doubt it because I think he is but he doesn't want to say it after to talk against the vaccine for so long. There is something clear, if he plays he is vaccinated unless they would do it an exception with him which would be very unfair but I don't think they will

The latest news from the ATP Cup is that Serbian officials have not withdrawn from the ATP Cup,though according to Bliscport and many tennis journalists Novak will not be playing the ATP Cup, ( Craig Gabriel,Top Media journalist for ATP Cup also tweeted the news)....According to the rule of the ATP Cup if a player withdraws after entering the team can still play, another team member can be subsituted.I agree his PR needs to come out now and confirm if he is playing ATP Cup and/or AO.

Obviously he's not playing the ATP cup. Would he have slipped into Australia unnoticed? It starts in 3 days. He's stretching this drama out past the breaking point, and it's unnecessary. If he wants the drama, he's getting it. And when he plays the AO, which he probably will, he's going to complain the whole time about the attention he's getting on the vaccine issue. Be careful what you stir up.

Well if he does play the AO he will have to face the media, and be able to handle whatever questions come his way.Personally speaking I would not want the drama,no player is bigger than the game of tennis period.

If he does play the AO, he's going to have more off-court drama than he wants, and much of it would be of his own making. He doesn't generally deal well with off-court drama, so, if he does play, I think his chances of winning are reduced. My interest now is if Rafa makes it to Melbourne.

I have not read any updated news on Rafa,so for now he is due to play in Australia, there are charter flights for players coming into Australia a lot of players have already landed and some players are using private charter.

Tennis governing bodies has approved the move of the Tennis Anti-Doping Programme to the International Tennis Integrity Agency from January 1,2022.With that tennis has created the first fully independent and integrated global anti-doping and anti-corruption integrity unit in sport.
