The commies reminded me that Sofia lost 0-6, 0-6 to Vika in a warm-up clay tourney this year.
That is a good comeback from there to finals of RG. She should take the positive from this.

Osta also won RG as her first title. Same with Iga.

RG seems to spring surprise winners.

Wow just saw the result.

Congrats to Iga, what an incredible tournament she played, out of nowhere.

Without losing a single set.
And her game should be suited well for the other surfaces.
19 years old, just insane.

Mary Pierce to present winning trophies

Mary has not changed that much from her playing days

I don't remember the exact wordings and so I am paraphrasing.

Iga said "I don't know whether you are injured or not. If you are not injured, may be you would have played little better".:lulz1:

super fan Swaitek was inspired by Nadal to win RG :trophy: Also feel like she can win like 8 Wimbledon titles.

We’ve had unheralded first time Major winners before but I can't recall ever one winning in such a convincing fashion against top competition. All in straight sets and Iga never lost more than 5 games in a single match. "Pushed" to 6-4 only twice at Roland Garos and 6 out of her 7 matches included breadsticks.

Sometimes the draw opens up for a newbie, but this time she beat two current Major winners, Simona(Wimbledon) Halep & Sofia Kenin(AO)) in the tournament as well as last years Finalist (Vondrousa).

1971 Evonne Goolagong had already made the finals of the AO that year before she won the FO all straight sets, but she had been touted as a future star. 2004 Sharapova won Wimbledon but nearly lost to Lindsay Davenport in the SF and lost several sets in that tourney.

Again, never seen this in my lifetime.

Congrats Iga!!
