Yes but Roger was probably fairly consistent throughout. Bottom line is he had a big physical decline by the time he was 29. He can still play decent tennis sometimes but clearly way past his best

in terms of physical shape... his game is less physical than Rafas tho, so in theory, Rafa should decline faster and sooner

And that feels like a good time to say what we all know that one of Thiem's problems, everywhere, not just here. But mostly against these top players is he does not return as well as Novak or Rafa. Or even Roger.

He is fit, front. He's also rested, as you seem to forget. Hasn't played since Fri, and only dropped one set before today.

But Rafa hasn't declined much if at all. Clearly he and Novak aged way better than Roger

And that point shows why Nadal wins so much. He is more willing than anyone to move his body to create a shot that will finish or set up the final shot of a point. Nearly slid into the net there.
