4 games all in the 1st set, tight match so far,Ajla playing much better today than yesterday did have a BP in Pauline's last service match but could not convert.
Australia lead 5-4,nice 2nd serve ace to take the game from Ajla.
Australia with 2SPs,good first wide serve from Pauline saves 1 SP
Australia win the 1st set 64!

France breaks back,Pauline with some good fhands,Ajla with some low percentage shots, which cost her.

Good hold from Ajla saving a BP with 2 great 1st serves

Australia leads 5-4.....Love service game from Pauline

5 games all.

Shame the format for Fed Cup will lose the home and away concept this tie will be the last time it will be played, unless the 'powers that be' come to their senses next year will the so called new concept same for the men,it will not have the same atmosphere.

No changes for the doubles,

Australia Barty/Stosur

France Mladenovic/Garcia

Players on court warming up.

France won the toss and elected to serve.Garcia to serve first.

Barty failed to deliver for the Aussies. She was expected to win both her matches, but did not.

Having said that, if she had won, they would not have made change in the reverse singles and Garcia would have won her singles and finally it would have come to doubles again. In doubles Kiki and Garcia definitely have advantage as they are seasoned partners.

Fed Cup is a Team Event last time I checked.Rankings go out the window when you play for your country.Garcia played poorly against Barty so they gambled on Pauline who had more experience than Tomljanovic.France knew they had a winning combination in their doubles team which won them the final rubber.

Earlier Mladenovich defeated world #1 in a dramatic three setter

Both Fed cup and Davis cup are famous for underdog player playing the match of her/his life and winning one for the country. However, that usually happens when the tie is being played in underdog's homeland. Barty has no excuse in letting Kiki beat her in Aussie Soil.

Oh please.......regardless of being on home soil Kiki deserved her win....deal with it,Kiki has beaten Ash before in Rome this year.,before Ash won RG.As I said before in my post, rankings have nothing to do with it,when playing for your country,we have seen this many times before in Davis and Fed Cup.,lower ranked player defeating the higher ranked player,or in this case the No 1 player.Stop Berating Ash and give Kiki the full credit she deserves....she played an incredible tie both in singles and doubles.
