- Lower seeds won all 4 RR1 matches. - Higher seeds won all 4 RR2 matches. - All 8 players can still qualify heading into RR3 matches. A solid summary of the depth, drama, and parity in the 2018 WTA season.

Who said womens tennis is boring?

Not sure I personally meant that WTA is boring; just not interesting to me! I haven't really cared since Hingis and Henin! :nono:

Can someone tell me how many eligible players decided not to play here?

Is it me or is this one of the least popular WTA WTF?

Bertens wins the first set, Osaka retires.

It's been quite a season for Osaka, I am sure she can enjoy the holidays now and get ready for the AO.

Now I read that with a 2-0 set win by Bertens she would be through, does this also apply to a retirement in the second set?

Not surprised Osaka retired. Dead rubber for her.

Yes, she needed to win in straight sets I believe.

Remarkable you get 125 points for merely competing in a match at the finals. Osaka lost three matches, yet goes home with 375 points, that's a nice bonus for not even winning a single match.

Saw an interview with doctors today and they said that because it was discovered early it's treatable and she can have a normal sportslife. She "just" have to use the medication on a regular schedule.
