why do you hate him ? is it just because he trashed the arrogant old Swiss ? or any other reason ? I can't get it
Which arrogant Swiss are you talking about? If you mean Federer, in what way is he arrrogant? The Millman’s style of play is ugly. He chases every ball and mostly tries to keep the ball on court. It is painful to watch tennis that.

We shall see brotha. For my money he will always have a decent chance at Wimbledon. USO...forget about it and he's probably not going to win another AO though he definitely has some chance there next year if it stays as fast as the last couple years. But Wimbledon, he is inherently a top 2-3 favorite as long as he's healthy and I'd imagine it will be like that for the next 2-3 years.

As for how long he will enjoy it, that solely depends on how he does overall. I highly doubt he would enjoy it if he is barely a top 10 player.
He was perfectly healthy this year and lost to fricken Kevin Anderson. He's lost the mental edge my friend and it's not even so much about fitness. He was lucky to navigate a partial mental meltdown against Cilic at the AO and grab #20.

In 2016 he was obviously not right physically yet was one BP away from winning the semi in 4. This year he was atrocious at Halle but one point away from a semi vs fricken Isner and then a final vs a Nole not nearly back to full power. Those losses in a way show he can still win there if he isn't his own worst enemy.

I agree that he is mentally way off right now and aside from the loss to Djokovic he's pissed away every other match he's lost this year. The mental edge can come and go, I'd be more certain he was done if I got the sense he couldn't play well anymore game-wise. Let's see what he does with his schedule the rest of the year. He knows damn well his chances at winning AO and having a strong 2019 are less if he plays Laver Cup and 3 other tournaments this Fall. If he skips most or all of Fall that shows he is serious about next year. I think he got too content after getting back to #1 in Rotterdam.

It was a weird match as in Nole had a pressure/no pressure situation. There was absolutely nothing Millman had that was going to hurt him it was clear after a few games. Nole had to be thinking “ This guy beat Federer??” The humidity seemed more an issue.

Again other than not being taxed much out there i think Nole’s mental swagger is back. With him the only question is he completely back in a match where he’s pushed; Rafa let him off the hook somewhat at Wimbledon ( as he did Roger at 17 AO) and Nole ran through the opening. A confident Nole is hard to beat. My only question is is he back to absolute consistent monster mode of 14/15. This tourney might tell.

Nishikori could be interesting but again doesn’t seem to have anything that scares Nole but he does have that 2014 win here, so there’s that.

Nole's had plenty of aberrant losses to player he's owned; esp. in important moments like a major or the Olympics! It's not like he choked, but they seemed to rise to the occasion; almost refusing to lose/miss! We've seen it with Murray, Wawrinka, Cilic, Berdych, & even the likes of Isner & Querrey! There's a difference with Federer where he's obviously not there; either mentally or physically! It's to be expected with the many years of him tolling away on tour at a top level! I've seen it before in men and women! The biggest and most comparable has to Martina who performed 20 years of top flight tennis, but by the end of the 80's, even she had to admit to burnout, the legs not being there, and a little less "stick" on her shots being pummeled and shot back at her! She had the game to hold out a little while longer to win one more Wimbledon in '90 and making a final run in '94 dropping the match to a player she owned, Conchita Martinez!

Federer's been absolutely amazing, but we expect too much; so does he! Losses like to Millman will occur and we shouldn't be shocked! If Nole's feeling it playing at night, we shouldn't have been surprised with the other night! It would have been a sweet exit in 2012; made it well worth it to wait 5 years before having another great season in 2017! Winning that AO this year had to be a gravy, but I have to believe Fed needs to really pull back on his schedule and seriously think about retiring after next season! I think it can only get uglier with the likes of players like Shapovalov, Coric, Thiem, & Zverev, Chung, & Kyrgios if he gets his $#!t together! I've already said he wouldn't defend all those titles from last season; the FALL ain't going to be any better than the Spring and Summer!  :ptennis:

Rafa didn't let Roger off any hook at the AO 2017. With the much faster court it was clearly advantage Roger and he should have won it in straight sets. If anyone got let off the hook it was Rafa. Roger played a crap 2nd and 4th set but won set 3 by 6-1. Shouldn't have taken the foot off the gas and it would've been done and dusted in 3 quick sets.

That’s where you lose me. Some Federites will go on and on and on when Roger missed opportunities XYZ in a match and can’t let go and then blithely ignore the blown opportunities that present themselves to Roger’s foes.

Have you ever played tennis? Or any competitive sport? It doesn’t matter HOW you got there, but when you have a service break in the 5th set of a match and you can consolidate that break you are in the drivers seat.

It’s fine, Federer prevailed, but to revise that match to say on paper Roger should have won in straights is laughable ; doesn’t change the fact he squeaked by in 5 sets on a fast HC surface. Talk about an agenda. It’s not enough for you Roger won that match; It apparently still gnaws on you it was a close five set match, in Majors Rafa has never been an easy opponent for Federer.

Last time I checked he still had a 2-1 edge in AO matches with Federer.

Let’s just say Nole inspires people....

At the least after this USO Nole will be ranked # 4, maybe 3. He can take over #2 in the fall though I think #1 May be a bridge too far by YE. He certainly better not pull a Murray and burn himself out trying to get there.

Millman seems a very likeable guy, sort of player you'd cheer for as long a he doesn't play your favourite.
