Dominic was serving for the set break up and got broken. He also had a 5-2 lead in the TB to lose it in the end 5-7.

Shockingly, N. Jarry upsets Dominic Thiem in two TB .Domi was up in both TB losing them both.
This was not a good performance of the Dominator. But watch out for the young Chilean .Many times erratic, but has some monster shots.

With both Schwartzman and Thiem out today, one seed is left in the running PCB. Can he make it to the SF?

@mrzz has been telling us to look out for Jarry for some time. I couldn't watch the match today, but wondered if there might be an upset.

Quarter-finals:

Nicolas Jarry (CHI) beat 1-Dominic Thiem (AUT) 7-6(5) 7-6(7)

Nikoloz Basilashvili (GEO) beat 3-Pablo Carreno Busta 7-6(3) 6-4

Jozef Kovalik (SVK) beat Thiago Monteiro (BRA) 3-6 6-3 6-2

Leonardo Mayer (ARG) beat 2-Diego Schwartzman (ARG) 6-3 4-6 6-3

No seeds left. I had a feeling Mayer might take Schwartzman but didn't see the Jarry result coming.

Semi Final Line-up:

Basilashvili v Jarry
Kovalik v Mayer

Thx for the reminder, Moxie, even if it was more wishful thinking than a cool headed prediction that he would become a top player (which he is still far from). Judging from the 11 minutes highlights I saw he improved since the last time I saw him play. In fact, I recommend the highlights from this match, highly entertaining. Jarry's forehand is quite close to del Potro's level already.

I'm watching the replay now. Jarry has a funny junior-like serve position, but still has a big serve. And his shots can go wild, but when they hit...oh, my! Commentators I'm listening to made a comparison to Soderling. @Front242 : maybe this is your new guy! :)

Just watched this Jarry dude for the first time. Impressive, taking out Dominic on clay like that. Serve is a bit all over the place but the guy has got all the other tools in the box.
I don't agree that his serve is all over the place. It's a bit odd, but it's pretty big. I have no idea how he won that first set, but he's got grit and big game.

Jarry's service motion has a bit of Roddick's... surely not a bad a model to follow. If he keeps improving, he will always win sets and matches like that first set, as he plays like there's no tomorrow all the time.

Mayer is the 2 time chpion in Hamburg, gunning for his 3 title.
He is in a rare category to win 2 titles of ATP 500 events, without wining any 250 events. Can win his 3 500 event? He must love Hamburg.

Congrats to Nicoloz. Great week of tennis. Aside from the odd wandering of the brain and the eventual reset, the guy has a lot of game. Let's see if he can keep it together and do some damage next clay court season.
Apparently a coaching change pulled him up a notch. I think he could do more than he did in the past.
