The Tournament:

Embracing the hustle and bustle of Atlanta's I-75 and I-85 corridors, the BB&T Atlanta Open is an annual men's tournament played at Atlantic Station. The tournament's change in surface and name came with a change of date to be closer to the start of the US Open. The event gained the attention of the world's best players and became a premier warm-up stop for the US Open.

The Players

John Isner rolls into Atlanta on the back of decent form to begin the defence of the title he won here in 2017 and a threepeat between 2013 and 2015.

Who else is playing?

Nick Kyrgios, the 2016 champion is in Atlanta. Hyeon Chung heads a group of nextgen players including Jared Donaldson, Frances Tiafoe and Taylor Fritz. Veterans Mischa Zverev, Jeremy Chardy and Gilles Muller are also in the mix.

Surprised to see that there are only 3 American seeded players here. Atlanta is kind of informally known as the tourney to decide who is the best American tennis player.

@herios What's your take on Fritz currently? I know you were buying stock heavily a couple of years ago.
I think slowly he'll get better. He is still 20 and he has to work on technique and movement.

I have a similar question to you @britbox, about Kokkinakis. Do you believe he'll ever come back from his post surgery malaise?

Depends what you mean by "come back"... I think he can get back to where he was pre-surgery, but I don't think he's going to be the second coming. I see him as kind of a Baghdatis type player... nice to watch, capable of springing upsets of top players now and again, but never a serious contender at winning slams.
