My opinion is that Rublev looks like Emperor Palpatine/Darth Sidious.

Of course, Moxie!

And Fiero, I agree: the Phoenix is (or was) much better looking than young Andrey!

At certain angles, Rublev looks like Gollum, in LOTR. Dimitrov shouldn't have dropped that set, and he'll be regretting it in the end, win or lose.

I get what you're saying, Dude, about certain characteristics seeming to hold water across national lines. But it doesn't really mean everything in an individual sport. (Americans don't win on clay: Courier, Agassi; Spaniards don't win on grass: Nadal.) You get my point.

More Gollum than Sidious. Good call.

Good to see you around, Chewy!
Thanks, Moxie! Question...How do guys like Luckas Lacko, among others, qualify for majors? It seems as if guys like him rarely play other tournaments. Not singling out Lacko. There are others. Just wondering how those guys can qualify for majors when you never hear of them playing lower level events.

Key word is "qualify." They have to be high enough ranked to be admitted to the qualifying rounds, so Lacko has been lurking around at lower level events, for sure. But then they play 3 qualifying rounds at Majors. They have the opportunity to qualify at other events, as well. And it's not like we've never seen Lacko. His career high ranking is 44.

Forgive me for not checking (I'm lazy), but is Lacko a qualifier? Did he make the main draw by making it through the qualifying rounds? Again...I'm not picking on Lacko. I follow tennis, even the 250s, the best I can. I rarely, if ever, see guys like him in the main draws. How do they keep their rankings high enough to get into the main draws of majors?

He's currently ranked 86, so he must have qualified.

Sleeper Seppi about to get the best of Karlovic in 3? He won the first 2 and is up the break in the 3rd.

Dimitrov wins one on experience. Rublev was rash and probably the less fit, in the end. Grigor needed this one in 3.

Pretty convincing showing from Nadal. Some mistakes when trying to raise the level, but solid enough to keep Dzumhur at bay when the Bosnian raised his own level. One thing Nadal always does well is the intensity timing . If someone wants to beat him here, it will take real good tennis to do it.

Nadal looks solid, but I think it is too early to make conclusions because of the quality of opponents he has faced so far.

"The art of gifting away tie-breaks" by Jo Wilfried Tsonga.

Kyrgios wins in four sets, with clutch play in the tiebreak.

There are a few of these guys that hang around and actually prefer to compete on the challenger tour. It’s easier to get the necessary points for a 128 major draw. ATP 250 events feature 32 player draws or less of course.

The other player that comes to mind is this Taiwanese player Lee or something.

Ifhink you are talking about Lu. There is a difference between Lu and Lacko in terms of Lu is more of a permanent resident of the top 100, residing in the 50-80 area most of the time, while Lacko is more of a 80-120 range player.

So after spanking Dzumhur, Nadal gets Schwartzman next. I guess if Nadal manages to squeek out a bit more spin, the Argentinian will not even be able to reach the ball.

Goodness me, draw handpicked by Carol and Mox indeed.
