Ugh. Hated to see it finish like this.

Not speaking strictly as a bitter Nadal fan but this tournament has turned out to be quite lame.

You got to hand it to Rafa to still sit out the match. He refused to throw in the towel against Wawrinka and made it a full match. That was pure class.

I hate to be heartless but Nadal only has himself to blame. If he doesn't fall apart in the second set this one is over in straights and he's rested for the semis, no injury, no nothing.
That's a pretty big "what if." I think his footwork was off all match. But he might have made the next round, yes.

Rafa would never retire in a final. Obviously, he tried to make a match of it here, but it was obvious, at the end.

Sorry for the Nadal fans.

Now we can unite for ABF (anyone but Federer).

It's insulting. You would not tolerate that talk about someone with such a record v. Roger. I'm pushing back. And UPSET? Rafa is probably injured and done. Give me a break.

I mean the statement that a player with a poor record can be a tough matchup should not be upsetting. Davydenko had a really bad record vs Roger but I was not comfortable watching those matches because I knew he could make it really difficult for Roger if his mind held up. And yes he is one of those guys Roger probably should've had a few more losses against.

I'm not missing your point. All Fed fans think there is no player invented that should trouble Roger. Such a great champion. I'm saying I'll have a little bit of that chutzpah and say, STOP. I'm not interested in your theories and "what ifs." Cilic has been terrible v. Rafa until today.

And I think Rafa is done. :(

This is your eternal problem. You think you know what Fed fans think. And usually you're waaaaay off base. For us, we hate to see Roger play retrievers with excellent movement (at least we used to). Then all of a sudden big servers who Roger used to dine on became a problem. We most definitely do not think that there is no player that could be designed to trouble him. You think we're arrogant because our guy is more accomplished than yours. The truth is we're just fans with our own insecurities. Don't make it difficult for us to empathise with you today..

I mean, it's a big what if but it's a really easy what if. He was up a break in the second and gifted the set without Cilic doing much. He wins the set, he wins the match. We agree on that right? Then he's in the semi. Sounds straightforward to me.

If it's hard for you to empathize with me today, perhaps the problem is yours.

I agree about his movement, and I've been complaining about his level all tournament, even before the 4th round. Having literally watched hundreds of Nadal matches over a period of 13 years, it becomes very easy to spot what's off in his game.

That's the point. It's not hard at all. You're hitting out at the wrong people. Don't blame us. Rafa has had shockingly bad luck here. We agree. Even DF isn't dancing for joy. That's got to tell you something
