Agreed. Venus is a big time baller, and this is her backyard. Was never going to be easy. For the life of me I can't understand how the British press paid such little respect to her

Because she's 37 years old. They don't respect their elders. :lol6:

4-2 Venus. 2 games away from the final where she hasn't been in 8 years.

Well, they're certainly learning now! I won't even go into the nonsense of having Murray as a joint favourite at the start

Ha ha. I'm being a tad harsh on her probably... she's got a much better accent than Rusedski at least. I guess I just don't like people jumping nationalities for financial gain. I don't dislike Konta but how do you regard yourself as a British when you're born and bred in Australia to Hungarian parents. Play for Hungary or Australia. You must know what fricken nationality you are when you're 10 years old.

Tennis is an individual sport; representing a country is second business. I am all for a player choosing whatever country that supports and welcomes her.

What do you think of people from ordinary professions emigrating to USA, UK and AUS in search of better life and financial security. Are you against them too? Assuming you are not, why treat the tennis players the same way.

I've got no problem with anybody working or living anywhere. I just don't really regard Konta as British. Likewise I don't regard Lendl or Nav as Americans.

Hi Ann,
Konta definitely has the pedigree to win this tournament one day (good serve, groundies and not afraid to come to net), but it will be a tough ask to take out a 5-time champ in Venus and then Mugu who is a former finalist here and a slam champ at RG. Jo has played a lot of tennis already w/ several of her matches going deep into the 3rd set. I wonder if she's tired.
Hi! I was speaking in hope rather than realistically. A British win would have been nice as we don't get many. Oh well! Maybe 1 day.

Hi Ann,
Assuming you're British and that you favor horses;)
One of the commentators (can't remember who) mentioned that the British crowd never really warmed to Konta like they did to Heather Watson and of course Andy. Why do you think that is? Is it because she's not British-born, but Australian or because she wasn't consistent.
Of course today, they're supporting because she's the last left, but wondering about that question.
Hi! I definitely am. I'm a patriotic Brit so support Brits especially British born 1st but have no problem at all with people of all nationalities. I've got friends of all nationalities. I also like Brits to win because they don't win very often. Oh well! It would have been nice to have a British winner but it wasn't to be.
