I like Konta, and you gotta feel for the British fans, but I think Venus is too strong for her, and she's my sentimental favorite for the title.

I think Vee will take this. Konta has made huge strides over the last year but Vee will just be too strong for her IMO.

The Williams serve will be off and Konta will triumph in straight sets.

In the past you've made this abundantly clear without providing a reason. So don't be surprised and question why people don't like your faves like Garbine, Sharapova, etc.

That's what happened in Miami, but I don't think it will happen here. We'll see. I think it will be another close match for Konta like the Halep or Vekic match, but on this surface I think Venus will win a close battle.

First meeting on grass between Venus and Johanna, previously both had a win over each other,Johanna on HC and Venus on clay.I feel the overall experience Venus has especially playing on her favorite surface could be the telling factor.Venus has a great transition game on grass, she cannot afford Johanna to control the mid court like she did in her match against Halep.
Venus in 3 sets, though I would prefer straight sets:)

Venus is 37. She is suffering from auto-immune disease and is fairly irrelevant these days compared to her glory days. Hence, I see her winning this Wimbledon with an all out effort and then retiring immediately, thus going out with a Big Slam win a la Pete. Even if she does not retire immediately, I at least see her announcing her retirement by the end of this year, if she wins Wimbledon. If she does not win, she will soldier on of course.

Hope she wins and retires in style.

This is the first time since 2010 USO vs. Clijsters where I can remember her being in QFs or farther without a potential match with Serena. She let that SF get away IMO.

Hoping Venus wins the title. I don't think she will retire until Olympics year. She loves the sport too much to hang up her racket now.

Ex-pat Brit but think I'd prefer Venus to take this... hoping for a Garbine v Vee final as I like them both.

Aye. This is a big match, tailor-made for a Williams.

Grand Slam semi-final playing the home favourite on Centre Court. Venus has been there, done that, got the tee-shirt and will be ready to suck the life out of the occasion (I don't mean that disparagingly).

It will be a fascinating watch.

Konta looked good against Halep. Very impressed by that performance, I don't think this will be an easy day out for Venus, even though I think she'll take it and will be rooting for her.

not sure Haychew explained his hate of Nadal but it's not important...we have all our fav players, and we dislike some others

This isn't about Haychew. It's about you. He didn't come to this thread and question why people don't like Garbine while simultaneously expressing his dislike for 2 other players. Like I've said to you before, if you're going to dish it out just make sure you can take it as well.

I hope Konta wins. I want her to win Wimbledon women's tennis altogether because Britain doesn't often win. Until Andy Murray won Men's Wimbledon Britain hadn't had a Man's winner for decades then he won twice on the trot. He did very well as he hurt his hip but I would like Konta to win as we don't win that often.

Hi Ann,
Konta definitely has the pedigree to win this tournament one day (good serve, groundies and not afraid to come to net), but it will be a tough ask to take out a 5-time champ in Venus and then Mugu who is a former finalist here and a slam champ at RG. Jo has played a lot of tennis already w/ several of her matches going deep into the 3rd set. I wonder if she's tired.
