Garbage is probably the first woman to beat both Williamses in GS finals. Can someone confirm that?
That would be accurate as Venus only lost finals to her sister and Hingis. Not a surprise. For whatever reason, people really get up when playing a Williams and don't really show the same fire when playing others.

Yeah, or close. I think she'll win a few more and probably have a stint at #1. McEnroe reckons he had her slotted for half a dozen majors before she won her first.

I do too. I can see her around 5 or 6 total. She doesn't appear mentally to be able to go back to back like Serena, but if she won a slam every year or every other year, she would end up w/ about 6.

Congratulations Garbine on your 1st Wimbledon title and your 2nd GS title, what a incredible tournament you have had.How ironic that your coach was the first Spanish woman to win Wimbledon in 1994 and coached you here at Wimbledon. It was a tight first set, your fhand was tight and Venus had the opportunity to win it,but you stood firm and then played the type of tennis you are capable of,your game translates to all surfaces, hopefully you will be more consistent in future tournaments.
I would also like to congratulate Venus for having a great tournament and making the final,Garbine was just too good in the final, always gracious in defeat, good luck Venus for the rest of the year.

Odd to start talking about Garbiñe for the HOF. She's young and got a lot of work and tennis ahead of her, and I hope she starts living up more regularly to all of her potential. The two Slams are more than nice, of course, but I'd love to see her step up on a regular basis and be the force that women's tennis needs out of its younger players.

Wikipedia says that Muguruza is, in fact, the first. Now, I'm not trolling you, but I asked you earlier what you had against her, and you said 'nothing.' So why do you call her 'Garbage?' It's so awful. I sort of get it from tossip, even though she says that's just a 'feeling' she has. (Yeah, right. See above.) You don't like her game? You don't like that she's Spanish? (If that's it, you can think of her as Venezuelan, as she is that, too.) Personally, I don't see how she's been around long enough or done much to offend enough people for her to get such a "trashing" around here. (Pun intended.)

she has a slick mouth and not easy to like...so the Williams are the standard of the tour beat a Williams and all the doors will open wide.Venus was clearly struggling physically and her win over Serena was because Serena had a groin injury.I will never like garbage because of her slick mouth...hell no.

What does "slick mouth" even mean, though? I'm sad Venus wasn't up to her best today, and I really wanted this win for her. But I like Mugu's game, her boldness and ambition. Why not?

I already posted a message in this thread (even before the game started) saying I neither think her tennis is garbage nor think she is garbage as a person (I don't have any dirt on her). However, I am using the term "Garbage" when talking about her as somehow it became her nickname. Somebody coined it and few people used it. So, the name got stuck. That's all. Sometimes, there is no logic to nickname.

If you like, you can even go back to Wimbledon 2015 thread. Even though she lost that final, I was very appreciative of the fight she gave at that time. I actually like Garbage's aggressive type of game much better than the defensive games of Kerber or Caro. Also, I don't have anything against Spanish people in general either. Stop making imaginary assumptions.
