Where's the option, "Novak by walkover?"

:lolz:

I considered adding that, but I thought it'd be tacky

Tacky is cool!

I keep expecting to see Ray Donovan in Nole's box: "Ray's been hired to help facilitate my progress, he liaises with the opponent just before the match, so yeah, he's been a great addition to my team..." :laydownlaughing

I expect Novak to win in 3, but who knows, I agree with everyone else that Monfils might retire.

In Toronto, I did not watch the early matches. Lots of posters in this forum said he is playing really good. I watched his match against Nole and it was a total crap. He went out with almost no resistance. I am not even talking about going away in the end. He went away from the beginning. Novak is 12-0 against La Monf. There is no way that Novak will lose to Monf. The only question is in how many sets. I would give a max of 1 set.

While Monfils never won he was always able to make it quite close when Novak didn't play that well. But if he played at a high level Novak often won convincingly.

To have a chance of victory Monfils probably needs an exceptional serving performance as his apart from the occasional flashy winner rather conservative baseline game usually doesn't trouble Novak. Monfils normally isn't able to hit with consistent depth so Novak can open up the angles to force errors or create space to hit winners without having to take big risks.

As Gael isn't known to play great in big matches while Novak normally raised his level at that stage during the last two years I expect Novak to win rather comfortably in three or four sets.

I'm wondering what Slam title was won by playing the fewest sets - not just three-and-outs, but walkovers and withdrawals. Maybe Novak has a chance of surpassing whatever that was.

You need to go all the way back to the 20's, and the challenge round, I imagine...

OMG! Here's a photo taken yesterday, of Ray Donovan with Monfils, and some blonde bird. Poor Gael is gonna withdraw... :cry

I am going to be in and out since I have to prep for class this afternoon, but hopefully, we can get a nice conversation going. Obviously the next match would appear to be the more compelling.
