I hear that Novak has now created a record by reaching SF at RG for the sixth consecutive time and not even Rafa or Borg managed to do that. Is this a record (not worrying about the significance of it)?
Apparently it's really at least the open era record for consecutive SF appearances at the French Open.

Also by getting to the finals I think Novak is the first player who has reached three or more consecutive finals at each Slam (AO 2011-2013, FO 2014-2016, Wimbledon 2013-2015, US Open 2010-2013). Ironically Novak himself prevented Roger from achieving that by beating him in the semi finals of the Australian Open in 2008 and 2011.

It all counts in the record books even if winning is "king" to most around here! If it weren't important, Roger might have skipped an event or 2 instead of trying to play relentlessly for well over 10 years! In the beginnings of the Open era, it wasn't unusual to skip the FO and AO! Now Nole's the only potential GOAT trying to keep up that tradition of never missing a slam! I wonder when his record will be broken; his personally and in the books! :nono  :dodgy:

I envy a good one-handed backhand so I really like Thiem's game. Especially that backhand down the line. Growing up, I was taught to use the two-handed backhand because it's supposedly the most reliable shot.

Funny how they transitioned Thiem from a two hander to a one handed backhand.

He was serving Novak wide to the ad court, taking the backhand cross court return and sending it down the line for a winners during the first set and a half. It was ridiculously good.
