Not good. But Nishikori has been VERY disappointing.

Nole is going to have to step his level up big time for the Federer match.

Think about all the times Fed's been spectacular in his matches prior to meeting Djoker and the times Djoker's been subpar prior to meeting Fed. Then how things turn around when the two play each other - in the slams at least.

Kei's body is made of glass.

Yep. I thought about that... although I'm not sure Djoker has been quite as flat, not that I can remember.

Beginning of last year, he was flat for large portions of tournaments and won a lot of his matches ugly.

We'll see how it pans out. I think it might benefit Federer a little that it's also a semi not a final.

I agree with Edberg's Ghost. The only saving grace for Roger is that the court seems a bit quicker. He'll really need to believe in himself, as I don't think he plays as freely against Novak in slams. But as of right now it's hard to look past Novak in 4, I hope I'm wrong. Whoever wins that semi will win the whole thing for sure

Obviously Djokovic is the favourite, and Edberg's Ghost's post above is completely true. But one way or another, it is better (for Federer) that he is playing well. He would have absolutely zero chances if it was otherwise. This way at least he has a puncher's shot.

If he keeps this up, and, contrary to their last GS meetings, happens to win the first set, we may have a match.

The only thing a bit different from the pattern (Federer playing well up the match and losing in the end) is that Federer's forehand, as mentioned here or in other forums, is better (at least harder). And, for me at least, it does not matter which way you look at it: You only have a shot against Djokovic (in a good day) if you have a forehand. The FedererxDjokovic matches usually end in the moment that both players have the sense that Djokovic can track down anything Federer can throw at him.

Does anybody think that the fact it's a semi rather than a final may work slightly in Federer's favour?

Just a bit of psychology perhaps.... I think Roger might be a little less tight than he's been in the recent final encounters.

They have met in 9 (slam) semifinal matches with Novak leading it 5-4. Here in Australia they've met twice in the semifinals and Novak won both in three sets.

I certainly hope so, but the fact is.. Novak is just a beast right now. I just don't think that Roger has the physical and possibly even mental stamina to last the course. One thing is for certain... Roger must win the first set. The last few majors I've ended up switching channels as soon as he's lost the first set to Novak. Why put myself through the torture?

Yeah, but the other channel was showing the French Open Final 2008.

Ooof! I try not to think about that one. My abiding memory was being stuck at Gard du Nord for hours because Rafa destroyed him so quickly... Or am I thinking of the wrong year?

Djoker just said he didn't even practice yesterday. Lol.

He went to the movies with Stepanek.

Not impressed with his game, but impressed with his resolve and loved the fact that I lost just 2 hours of sleep and didn't even have to get up from my bed to watch this one. Kei was out of sorts, maybe aided a little bit by Nole, but definitely he was affected mentally. I watched his previous match and he was really good and I doubted that Nole would win in 3 sets.
