She does it! That was more or less the championship. I don't see any of the remaining players taking her down.

That was vintage Serena, Tour de Force :clap

Vika played superb..She just got to stay out of Serena's half of the draw

She can do that by playing more tournaments and getting that ranking up. She just now got in the top 20. She would do well to play three hard court tournaments and get her ranking at least in the top 16 to avoid Serena at least until the fourth round. I think she and Serena are going to have a nice tussle at the U.S. Open.

Vika must fire Sascha..#pinish

Tossip , you know you and I are " Down like four flat tires" ..But what else could have team Vika/Sasha could have done against all of that funk that Serena brought today. When Serena dropped the hammer, house and all the rage she could what else could have Vika done.Vika also played with a high intense rage and passion but it's Serena was at the top of her game at the end.

And that does it! She completes yet another comeback

How was it a comeback? she lost the first set and won the next two sets.
Um, were we not watching the same match? She lost the first set which means she was behind at some point and had to come back. That's a comeback honeybun.

I have to give Serena credit. She is starting to play much cleaner tennis which doesn't spell good things for everyone else. 17 aces and 46 winners to 12 unforced errors. Azarenka had 7 aces and 20 winners to 11 unforced errors. Best match of the tournament. Might even be the best match so far this year. So far these two have played some of my top matches this year between here and the FO. I would give this the nod though.

:clap....Vika was on fire in the first set and Sascha was sitting in that players s box like a boss..:snicker..I am just wondering why Wim Fissette was not at Wimbledon...maybe he was fired to make way for Sascha.
I just like how chill the Williams box was...no one was looking nervous like they knew the outcome.I just liked how serene Serena was in that third set and used Vika s tactics against her like keeping the ball in play....Its good that Vika never gives up on her quest to beat Rena..but its on now to pova who must be nervous...:popcorn

Congrats to Serena! Azarenka just can't beat her on the big stage. Maybe someday. Serena is now two matches away from the Serena Slam and nine matches away from the Calendar Slam. She's gotten this far. I hope she makes it.

In the second set, there was one game by Vika which lasted over 10 minutes and went to multiple deuces. Finally, Vika managed to hold it. I think it was the fourth game of he set with the score reading 2-1 in Serena's favor when that game started.

Normally, when such a thing happens, the player who tried to break (but did not succeed) in the long game, tend to lose their serve in the very next game (partly because their mind is still thinking about the lost opportunity). But, Serena was in the present and won the 5th game very quickly.

That is amazing mental strength :clap

I'm confused. Is Azarenkas first name spelled ViKtoria or ViCtoria? On her website and different places online it's spelled ViCtoria, but why is she ViKa on twitter? And in old references on net it's ViKtoria...
hmm...

On Twitter, her handle is vika7. I always assumed it was a nickname of sorts but the official western version of her name being Victoria.

I know a lot of people talk about the effort that Serena has to put in at times to win, but I think the issue for her opponents is maintaining the effort they have put themselves in to win. Serena to her opponents dismay has many different levels with her game. Her B game can play and win with someone's A Game. It isn't like we have seen Vika or Petra or anyone else Serena has played in tight matches be able to up their level to another level when Serena ups her level. That is the problem for the other ladies. The other ladies when they are on a roll with Serena are playing at their capacity where Serena is hardly ever at full capacity until she deems it necessary. Yesterday was an example of Serena playing well, but she got even better in the second and third sets. Vika was pretty much at full display of her tennis. She needs to develop that next level whatever it may be net play, a better serve.

I think so many especially sports writers and detractors of Serena underestimate the effort it takes to serve aces and unreturnables. The effort it takes to recognize that the forehand is misfiring, so let me step back and go for more margin and work it into solid form again. She is very smart about her tennis, and it might not be obvious to the average person who wants to call her a ball basher. She isn't always successful when she changes tactics, but at least she recognizes the need for it which hardly anyone on the WTA does or has the ability to do. Vika is trying to get there, but I think she has another year or two before it develops.

For other players not named Serena it starts and end with the service game. Powder-puff serves, double faults and poor ball placement does not let them rise to the next level. Let's not even talk about the second serves!

There are some media reports which claim that Serena deliberately increased her decibel level whenever Vika amped up her level, sort of like imitating or moking. Apparently, the audience caught on with this and started laughing. I don't know whether any of this is true or not. But, this is definitely making the rounds.

I am sure that Serena was making more noise than usual for her. I don't know whether she did it naturally or to mock Vika.

There was a point in the match where it seemed exaggerated, but it was only during a point. It didn't sound natural for her, but I don't understand why now of all times Serena would mock it given the number of times they have played. It just was weirdness.

I too find it difficult to believe (not in principle, but happening in this match). Serena must be so focused on trying to turn it around and win the match, she surely cannot be in a mood for mocking.
