^ I think it is a wise decision for Serena to use the Hopman Cup as a warm up preparation for the Australian Open in 2015.BTW regarding the Brisbane International,no player who has won the title there in the WTA has gone on to win the Australian Open.

Interesting weird fact about Brisbane!

Normally I think Brisbane is a better choice as a warmup. I think if a player needs match play then Brisbane is better. I don't believe that Serena needs matchplay. So I guess the Hopman cup is kind of just a shake off the rust and make a nice chunk of cash is a good idea.

If I had to predict which slams Serena will win next year I would predict the Australian open and Wimbledon. Serena does really well in years after she loses at a particular slam. I imagine 2015 will look a lot like her 2013. She gets a lot of motivation from (by her own stellar standards) mediocre years. If 2015 is not like her 2013 I think it's hard to claim that age is not catching up with her.

Bouchard and Muguruza are going to be the ones to watch for me. Eugenie has shown she can advance deep in all big events across all surfaces. Garbine seems to have a lot of upside, but she needs a breakthrough title and the confidence that can go with that. Since Bouchard dominated her junior tennis compatriots quite a bit, one gets the impression that as Serena and Maria move off of the center stage in the next couple of years, these young stars should come to the fore. At least, that is my hope.

I am curious as to what Serena and Patrick will work on in the off season. I hope he works on flattening her shots and making sure she doesn't give too many short replies. I was encouraged by her moving forward more toward the second half of the season.
