His team will not let Djokovic get ahead. There are a lot of dangerous players left in the draw, but Djokovic is a cut above everyone right now. I didn't expect the score line I saw today with Nadal. I expected it to be a little bit tighter especially after losing that 4-0 on set 1.

Hey Fiero, did you pause for breath between ditching Federer and hitching your horse onto Nole's bandwagon? I'm outta breath just watching how fast you've been celebrating things Nole hasn't even won yet, as if you've been a fan for years... :laydownlaughing  :cover :popcorn

After the old veteran starts sliding, what choice do I have in picking a horse? I've already admitted to believing Roger's "The GOAT," but this is Nole's time! Federer is just an annoyance these days who hasn't won a major in 3 years, making only 2 finals! Murray's done better than that, but I'm no fan so I'll still be rooting for Djokovic from now until he's ready to pass the baton! I felt the same about Navratilova on the women's side when she started sliding in '93! It was time for her to go and her good-bye present was a Wimbledon final chance in '94! Roger should have taken the hint last season! That #2 ranking is very deceptive; more a #5 or #6 IMO! It'll catch up to him soon enough! :nono  :dodgy:

So how do you choose which bandwagon to leap shamelessly into?

I have to like the player personally! Nole's just a great guy, always says the right thing, and isn't offensive in the least on court! Players like Murray aren't the least bit likable with his rants! McEnroe, Connors, and Nastase were no faves of mines, but I acknowledge their contribution and notable records, though lacking in comparison to today's stars! Connors still holds the record for ATP titles even when he went years without taking a small 1; losing to just about anyone in the final if he so lucked out to reach! Hingis had a couple good years and I didn't abandon her; she left me! I still think she's one of the greatest players who got the most out of her game and body! I'm kinda disappointed she lost in both doubles and MXdubs already! She's still good though!

The LEAPS:

Men - From Borg, to Lendl, to Edberg, to Sampras, to Federer, now Djokovic; w/ Safin the overall genius IMO
Women - From Goolagong, to Navratilova, to Hingis, to Henin, now Radwanska who isn't doing very well

^^ Does it help you to like the player more when they're the current #1 and winning everything in sight? Federer is still a player. You kinda shifted his gear into the garage a bit prematurely. :popcorn :cover  :nono

I don't know if the team has a choice. Potential letdown after today, and Murray is on good form this season. I think it would have to go to 5 for Murray to win, and it likely won't. But we can hope. (Amusing side-note: Gilbert mentioned today that Andy wasn't yelling at his box, because he can't yell at Amelie, as she's pregnant. :laydownlaughing That will also serve him.)

What would you do for the Kentucky Derby; race a current colt or dig up Secretariat? It makes no sense to root for Roger when he's obviously in decline and can only be an irritant to the top players; not a real player in deciding what goes on on tour! Just being real and stating the facts! :nono  :dodgy: OBTW, those faves of mines weren't #1 when I took them on! I liked Borg because he owned Connors, then Lendl owned McEnroe, Nole has turned it around on Rafa, and Navratilova was Evert's #1 rival! None of them were #1 at the time of them becoming faves; just liked how they played and relished when they took out the top player at the time!

It's clinical, brother. It smacks of whimsy and choosing players who are going to give you a good day out. There's no loyalty in it. I'm not criticising you, because the players aren't loyal to us either, but it seems a bit odd that one week you're basking in the glory of Federer, and this week you're bragging and gloating in advance for Novak, on things he hasn't even won yet, records he hasn't even broke... :dodgy: :ras: :popcorn :emperor:

It's not like I'm vacillating and going back and forth! Federer's still the KING, but I can't bow anymore! Nole's taken over and I love how he's taking Rafa to the woodshed after so many years of being a whipping boy! "The KING is dead, long live The KING!" :clap  :p

I'm glad you've gotten over pretending that Novak was actually that close before, and has been Rafa's 'whipping boy' at RG. But as I said to Britbox on the other thread who tried to proclaim the same thing: The King of Clay is not dead. Rafa will long be the King of Clay. Remember how long Borg was. And Novak is not the King of Clay by any stretch by beating this version of Nadal. Get a grip, man! It was a QF.

I said nothing about being the King of clay! I'm talking about Nole being #1 and KING of the tour! Sampras was believed to be the GOAT before Federer came along if you remember, but he never even played a FO final! At least Nole's played a few! This tourney is over-rated IMO; tough, but a lot less having to do with skill! More to do with attrition and being able to survive the conditions! I hear the temps are going back up for semi; thank goodness Nole eliminated Rafa beforehand! :dodgy:

This match has a Federer-Haas feel to it, right after Rafa's loss to Soderling. Nole has to keep it together upstairs. The relief of winning against Rafa at RG must be substantial and that is the problem. Can Nole control that emotion and stay focused and even more hungry?

That match against Haas was a weird one. One point changed the whole match! Looking forward to seeing Tommy back for grass season.

Djokovic was #1 before that match started, and also king of the tour. So which King is dead, by your statement? You always try double-speak when you're caught in a comment you don't want to own. I'll ask you again: which King is Dead?

Sorry to side-bar, and I know this thread has been all over the place, but Front, did you hear them say that Soderling says he's coming back? You should be pleased, even if you don't need him now. :snicker

Symbolically it was Roger; he was the KING! He's been supplanted by Rafa and Nole, but he's still legitimately "The GOAT!"
