RE: Fed Cup 2015: Early round!

Muguruza won both her singles, but was the weak link in the doubles. Begu on the other hand has played the best tennis on Sunday. After a teary press conference Saturday, being strangely embarrassed by her loss to Muguruza (I think no one expected a win there), she played back to back matches winning both. Muguruza fizzled completely in the last 2 sets in doubles. Begu instead raised her game at that exact same moment clinching the win for Romania.
It's a bit sad for Muguruza, but to ask a 3rd win from her under such pressure seems a bit much. Maybe Conchita Martinez should have gone with another girl in the doubles (that also sounds crazy, changing a girl after a 2 match win streak, so yeah...).
Halep is clearly not enjoying FedCup: in the last 3 ties she was 1-1. Her loss to Muguruza was pretty clear, her serve stats were very poor all weekend. Losing your serve games against Garbine is never a good recipe for success.
All in all, great weekend for Romania, the team has depth, is not based on just 1 very good player, and the doubles is solid under pressure, it's the 3rd tie in which they got the deciding point.

Thanks to the "old cat" of tennis, Venus has secured the victory for the US against Argentina. Even though Coco lost, it was a good experience for her playing in an important match. IMO she needs to learn patience. She goes for the kill shot far too soon in rallies. Big babe tennis could also be smart tennis.

What I would like to know is why Sloane, Madison or Lepchenko(sp) is not playing Fed Cup? Why does it all have to be on Serena. And the worse part about it is that Serena is not even appreciated for all she does....This really pisses me off.

Don't be confused. Serena is there for Serena. She has to fulfill Fed Cup obligations or she won't be Olympic eligible next year. These other players won't be eligible next year and thus they won't be able to play.

Exactly!

I love Serena, but, let's not act like she's there for her love of Fed Cup.

She has to fulfill a requirement in order to compete in the Olympics.

Yeah, Serena and Venus are watching out for their Olympic interests. Good news is this is nice it is on clay, so Serena can gauge where her clay court game is at before Roland Garros. It isn't all bad.

I'm sure it was a determining factor in her deciding to play there. While she had to come to Europe a little earlier, she will get a few matches on clay and fulfill her FC requirement.

Maria likely pulled out of FC because she wants to be ready for Stuttgart on Mon.

Damn, Serena must be acting like a crazy person. That score suggests as much not that Sara is a slouch on clay, but...looks like Serena has some footwork to work on between now and Roland Garros.

13 breaks of serve (7 on Serena's serve). It's not a pretty match.
