So, we have a final between the finalists of RG and Wimby.

I go with RG finalist.

Bacsinszky was a semifinalist at RG. Safarova was the finalist. But who's counting?

They say people usually don't remember the "also-rans" and so I was testing your memory. :dodgy:

You forget. My favorite players are usually also-rans. :snicker :cover

Bacsinszky (Backy) was up 3-1 but Garby broke back. But then Backy breaks again. Come on Garby! You need to win this title.

And don't you dare retire mid-match again!

Garby trailed 2-5 in the first but came back to win the last five games to take the first set 7-5. 4-all in the 2nd.

It's too early to say of course... But it looks like Sumyk has found a much better fit in Garbine. Lets not forget Vika's breakout 2012 came on the heels of a confidence building Year End Championships. I am praying we're finally seeing a young gun who really thrives on competition and improvement.

Muguruza finally breaks through and gets her 2nd career title and first this year! She defeated Timea Bacsinszky 7-5, 6-4. The doubles crown went to who else? Sania and Hingis!

Muguruza is a measley 2 points behind Sharapova in the WTA Finals tournament next month! She is now at No. 4. Meanwhile, Bacsinszky will move into the Top Ten with a chance for even higher next week.

MUGURUZA WINS BEIJING & UP TO NO.4

Congrats to Muguruza. I do feel though that if Timea didn't have so many 3 set matches, she'd have played better here -- and, she needs to concentrate in the offseason on finishing sets/matches, or at least not serving for them and losing her serve to 0 out of a clear blue sky. Anyway well done Timi, and keep following that dream

From an entirely different part of the spectators' stands I'm glad Mugu won, because Venus has a real chance with a win in Hong Kong of still making Singapore. If Timea had won, that possibility would have been somewhat reduced.

the commentators kept on saying she is like pova...thats an insult because Muguruza has more variety, she is light on her feet, warm, not stuck up and likeable.

<puzzled> Why youtube? I have the full 720p or 1080i vids of most of the matches I care to have - all 3+ TBs. And I've watched most of her matches and I have, rather like the commentators I suspect, to see that variety of which you speak. IMO, much like Sharapova, when Mugu's missing the court and Plan A of hit the ball hard isn't working, she switches to Plan B - hit the ball harder.

well that was quick...:clap...you could have what they call selective amnesia...:cry..Mugu is a very young player who is good at the net because of doubles plus her serve doesnt break down like pova s...she moves well for a big girl and is likeable doesnt waste time saying prayers at the back of court. She won thats all that counts...moving on she will get better with tactics. She is still very young unlike pova who is middle aged in tennis years.
go Mugu!

Now I know you're not serious - Garbine may play a lot of doubles, but the last thing anyone would say is that she's good at the net - heck, far from good, she's lamentable at the net. You sure you've been watching the right youngster? :laydownlaughing

And let's get real with another claim of yours - that her serve doesn't break down. Her YTD stats are Aces -199; Double Faults 193 -- that is not the record of someone whose serve doesn't break down.

I'm sure she'll improve over time, but don't let's claim way more for her at this stage than is demonstrable.

The incredible success of Santina. They only came into existence in March and have already won an Amazing eight titles, including two of the four GSs and three of the four Mandatory Premier events.

Indian Wells, Miami, Charleston, Wimbledon, US Open, Guanzhou (spelling?), Wuhan and Beijing.

You tell him bajana!! This religious Serena worshiper :laydownlaughing takes every chance he gets to ridicule Maria Sharapova with condescending rants - There was no reason what so ever to bring in Maria Sharapova in a Garbine Muguruza vs Timea Bacsinszky thread

And I wonder - If Masha (28) is middle aged in tennis years what about tossip's all time favorite Serena Williams who's 6 tennis years older which anyone clearly could see in the USO semifinal vs Roberta Vinci (ranked #43 when the USO started)? :lolz: - Maybe that's why the young Garbine Muguruza could defeat an aging Serena in the French Open 2014 but failed to do so vs Maria Sharapova in the QF - I think tossip should be very quiet for a long time to lick his wounds and avoid to say anything about other players in a condescending way

Also - Congratulations Garbine for winning a great title!! You go girl!!
