Wow, what a match. The score in the final set does not really reflect the tremendous groundstrokes and booming serves from both ladies! Madison has game, work ethic and drive. IMO with more coaching from the Leaches, as Venus said "the sky is the limit." Congrats to Serena, you EARNED that victory. Commies to Madison for making her earn it.

SO impressive to save 7 match points against Serena Williams.
In the post-match interview, Serena remarked that being unable to close out a match with her opponent saving so many match points does not happen often to her. Loved the hug at the net.

This is the first time I am seeing Madison in action. This girl has lot of firepower; not just on
serve on ground strokes as well. She is sure to be the most promising up and comer overtaking
Eugene, Sloane, Laura, and sever other who made a name for themselves last year (such
as Bencic etc).

Congrats to Serena - well done in a good match - surely not the last we've heard from Keys. Here som impressive stats:

She is almost there toe to toe with Serena on every stat except for unforced erros and
percentage of second serve points won. I am sure she can improve especially give her
15 years more experience that Serena has over her.

Anyone have a picture of them at the net? I heard they had a nice moment at the end.

You people do realized that Lindsey only started coaching Madison about 3 weeks ago....right? People are acting like Madison got all this sucess since Lindsey started coaching her. Madison won a tournament and Lindsey was not in the picture.....Let's put things in perspective here guys.

That's not really fair... Murray did plenty before Lendl but nobody would deny he helped him. Also the tournament keys won was minor and she didn't beat Venus and kvitova in succession there.

The thing I was happy with was Serena stayed calm when someone was keeping it close with her. I know especially last year she somewhat panicked in matches when people kept it close. That first set really was just about the serve and a difference here and there. The second set Serena started returning much better. I am glad Serena found her serve finally because that will really pressure Maria.

I know what you mean. Im not sure panicked is quite the right word. I think its more of an annoyance for her. She gets impatient and thats death in tennis. Its kind of like how many times has Maria lost the first set of a match and then basically restarted in the second set. Players like Serena can't get impatient if the first or even second set stays tight.

Barring injury, Keys will be a multi GS champion. She and Serena deserve all credit for their impressive performance. I wish Keys a speedy recovery. No one will feel safe with her in the draw, especially at Wimby.

Sorry, but, I think panic is the correct word. Serena seems tentative and nervous against the rising African American players and players that give her a hard time, i.e., Muguraza and Cornet.

Serena has always had the added advantage over players with her serve, when she finds herself facing break point, even in her last service game yesterday, she hit a Ace on her second serve to win the match, not many players have the ability to do that.

Madison is peaking...every young player peaks at 20yrs 0r 21yrs.I hope this is not a flukish run like Sloane.I hate to say that she is not that good to me...sheis more of a 100 ms runner than a marathon runner. She doesnt have the consistency to be great...sorry not impressed

That's strange Tossip, because I just went back and bumped all the previous threads where we discussed the young babes and you had nothing but good things to say about Madison.

Eek that characterization was silly. I can't remember any time I ever saw Serena nervous against Sloane.

Serena has never played her before so she had to get use to her game first.
