I want Djokovic to lose as much as the next non Novak fan but I really, really can't root for Raonic. Watching him try to guide backhands in is sad and hilarious. His serve is one of the best on tour but for such a huge serve, he really doesn't know how to set up big 1-2 punches. He needs to learn when to occasionally take off some power so that if the serve is returned, it doesn't come rocketing back at him.

I am sorry but unless about 5-6 players on tour retire tomorrow, Raonic is not winning a slam any time soon. The idea that he's anything beyond a top 10 player (which don't get me wrong, is impressive) is a major bill of goods.

Raonic looks like an impostor at this level. He has about two things going for him. Eventually Novak will roll him, even if Iron Arm wins the opening set in a tiebreak. He's the most gruesome, functional, boring player to watch...

:celeb:

Couldn't agree more.

Novak must be itching to play Stan. Finally he'll play someone who can put more than 4 consecutive balls over the net and inside the lines.

Raonic is 6 of 14 at the net.

After chunking yet another backhand volley, Raonic turns around with a look on his face that read, "God I suck!"

I just wish I knew why today's players look so inept at the net; almost at sea most of the time? It's embarrassing to see top players floundering in the forecourt! They must practice it sometime, but Raonic, Berdych, and even Kei can be bluffing for the most part at net; often getting passed outright! Even if they put their racket on the ball, it's the weakest shot in their arsenal unless it's high where they can take their normal groundstroke swing!

Where you as outraged at some past players being inept from the baseline?

I think they just commented that Raonic has only upset one player in the top 10 at a major; Youzny 4 years ago at USO! :nono :dodgy:

It's just business as usual for Novak so far in this match

He doesn't bother me like Rafa, Berdych, Ferrer, and Murray who play about the same kind of game! Nole's not going to the towel since it's cool; so this is moving along very quickly! :clap

Milos is playing like a 'local club player' at present

For Novak this is like a 'walk in the park'.

Milos can be thankful he has a big serve, unless this match would be a total whitewash

I dunno whether the link has frozen or is Raonic running crosscourt as fast as he can... :cover

I resemble that remark! :snigger Reminds me of winning my first club singles title; serving them into the side nets! lol! I was only 19 with long arms and could "bring it!"

Raonic needs to learn how to use his backhand slice more. His two hander is mediocre at best, and worse, it serves no purpose as far as point construction goes because it lacks accuracy. His slice is actually decent, and if he uses it well cross court, it would allow him to occasionally run around his backhand on the subsequent shot where he can use his admittedly big forehand.
