Nadal leads the H2H record 18-3 and has won their last 17 meetings.

I think it all depends on Nadal's form in this match. If Nadal plays like the last two sets against Anderson, then I see him winning in four sets.

If Nadal struggles though, then I see him winning in five sets and maybe even lose to Berdych.

Gotta do my homer thang and pick Berdych. Gotta break through sometime. Might as well be now. Let's win this thing. Easy as 3-6-1.

I haven't watched a minute of Berdych this tournament yet, so I can't quite tell how he's playing, but his scorelines have been straightforward enough. He needs a really dominating service performance. I remember when they played here three years ago (I still can't believe it's been that long), it turned into a surprisingly fantastic match, with Berdych really close to getting a 2 sets to love lead but lost the second in a tie-break and then Nadal played otherworldly tennis from there.

Back then though, Rafa was moving and defending better than he is now, and Berdych needs to recognize that. In that match, it was one of the few times Berdych has actually been able to get on top of the rallies consistently (at least in the first two sets) and move Nadal around. That was facilitated by the fact Berdych was serving terrific and getting plenty of weak replies on the return.

There are some things that always bothered Berdych in this match-up that are kind of surprising given his size. Unlike other big men with a huge game, he really struggles to deal with Rafa's serve on the return, and fails to get on top of the second serve. Rafa's spin bothers him immensely so Nadal finds it easy to expose his movement and move him around. Berdych's cross court backhand doesn't trouble Rafa as much as say, someone like Del Potro. It is no coincidence that both Nadal's DTL forehand and inside out forehands always look great against Berdych, because he's able to open up the court with ease with his CC forehand.

So Berdych needs to be more aggressive than usual on the return to put pressure on Rafa, and also take his backhand earlier to get on top of the rallies early as once he gets caught behind he'll be yoyo'd. I keep referring to that above-mentioned AO 2012 match-up because it was one of the few times Berdych was able to do some of these things, and he forced Nadal to kick it into another gear to prevail. He needs to do something similar, especially since I'm not sure Nadal has that gear in him now.

Rafa's backhand has looked good this tournament, and his serve has looked better than I thought in the past two matches. If his forehand catches fire it'll be trouble for Berdych. Perhaps the change of coaches will be useful for Berdych and allow him to come in with a more aggressive game-plan, but if he doesn't, this won't end any different to their previous million meetings.

One thing to keep in mind is the rallies will be longer than the Anderson match, so Rafa needs to be in top physical shape.

I'll take Nadal in straights though if Berdych is ever going to do it, now would be the time.

Also, I would like to add that Berdych NEEDS to win the first set. If he loses the first set, then I don't see him beating Nadal. I just think trying to win a match after losing the first set in a Slam against Nadal is just mentally tiring.

I saw that 2012 match. I had the feeling Berdych was playing at his absolute max and still could not get it done. I've given up hope since. Don't see him beat Nadal. Maybe the balls/court will help him and Nadals 'patchy' form.

Because I like Tomas, I'm going against my better judgment and saying he wins a set. :nono

Rafa in four.

I think he can win one set, especially given Rafa's unpredictable form, so I also voted Rafa in four.

If this was a Tsonga or a Del Potro facing Rafa I'd be desperate for them to cause an upset, but the fact that Berdych has lost to Nadal 17 consecutive times is simply too hilarious for a top ten player and I kind of want that run to continue just for the novelty.

With the way they've both been playing and the way Rafa's health has fluctuated over the past few months, this should be an unpredictable match, and maybe it will be, but the record between these two speaks for itself really. I've voted Rafa in 3.

Lucky for Rafa, Tomas goes out on the court defeated; absolutely unwatchable since he doesn't even try to make changes! I'm sure he can volley, but he forgets how when he plays Nadal; same with overheads! Incompetently taking them out of the air instead of bouncing the ball; IDIOT! :nono :cover :puzzled

It's probably too soon, but maybe, just maybe, Berdych's new coach will come up with something to give Berdych more of a chance. This match does seem hard to predict, but then again this is Nadal-Berdych we're talking about.

Anderson was the perfect warm up for Berdych. While Tomas moves a lot better than Kevin does, Ralf will be giving him more of the same with the same results. :p

This match will be third in Rod Laver Arena and looking at the forecast it looks it will be breezy from 15 mph to 25 mph. It will be interesting on how Berdych plays with the wind. We all know he can't play well with the wind

Remember the 2012 USO semi against Murray? It was extremely windy that day. Berdych's ball toss was a big problem.

I always wonder why he has to toss it up so high.

Berdych doesn't know how to beat Nadal. Maybe, he'll grab a set but I doubt it. Nadal in straights.

Nadal is looming like a dark cloud over my coming week.
