Exactly. Some days she can show up and look almost detached. No fighting spirit to be seen. That's a huge problem at her level.

It's also noteworthy that the No. 3 & 4 seeds have now lost by the quarterfinals.

From the Top 10, the only ones left are: 1, 2, 7, & 10. (And 2 and 7 are playing now.)

I did not see this match, but Ekaterina has a wide range of skills, and her doubles play keeps her in top mental and physical condition. It is a Russian-Russian semi.

I didn't see the match either, but 6-0 in a slam QF against a lower-ranked player w/o being injured or ill is completely unacceptable. :nono

" I practiced very well in the morning,but maybe I was a little bit too stressed before I started the match.I had a bad day." Halep said."But she played well and everything was going for her,so she deserves to win.I'm really sad I couldn't play my best tennis today,but that's tennis."

Totally thrilled they're reshowing this on the Eurosport stream I'm watching. Sad I missed it the first time. Thrilled Makarova won it. Love her. Have for years since she won Eastbourne from the qualifying back in 2010. It's been frustrating to be a fan of hers since then. I thought I was jumping on a bandwagon of a new young top player to be. But she's been so super up and down. She definitely got some help from Halep in this particular match it seems. But still thrilled to see her through to the semis here after 4 straight years of making at least the 4th round here, including two trips to the qfs, including her trip to the qfs in 2012 in which she beat a perhaps injured Serena. And easily too. Definitely comfortable here. Getting some big match experience through her doubles has definitely helped her. I think she's a two time doubles slam champ at least at this point. Not sure about that though. Yeah, the crowds may not be into doubles, but the players still feel the pressure. Anyways, in her two trips to the quarterfinals she ran into Sharapova and was defeated in straights both times in back to back years, 2012 and 2013. So she's not likely to beat Sharapova this year either. But, she'll get some points from the semi and I imagine Cibulkova will not make the final again so she'll lose a good bit of points and Makarova will take over the #10 spot for good. Or well, they won't be going back and forth as they are now.

Thanks, Tented and Kiu, but I am glad I did not see this match. I was rooting for Halep to get to the semi. The second set bagel is a surprise.

Makarova had a good game plan she attacked the fhand wing of Halep,which is her weaker wing
Makarova also used her good lefty serve,to Halep's body on her fhand wing?
Makarova dominated the match with her serve and fhand,also some of her bhand cross winners were just awesome.

Halep didnt even fight? I have seen her do that other times in her matches.

Markarova played a awesome match,she deserved her vicotory.Lets give Makarova the credit she deserves and stop making excuses for Halep!!!

As I said before, Makarova is great. She can even play net, a dying art in the modern game. It is unfortunate I can't picture her winning the semi.

Just what we need...Another Russian breaking through to the top and then suddenly can't win in the big moments. I'll hold my excitement for Makarova's ascension until she actually proves it.

Makarova has the game to defeat Maria Sharapova,it will come down to 'belief'.

Makarova has a great serve and fhand,she needs to attack the fhand wing of Maria Sharapova,she will get the errors,she will need to do this all match,not go away from her game plan,if worked successfully against Halep,whose fhand wing is her weaker wing.Makarova is a doubles Grand Slam winner,she is great at the net as well.
