I actually don't think Petra's danger will be against those players. Her biggest opponent is always herself. Yes there are players with better strategic game than her but really in the times she loses badly it's always kind of inexplicable. She rarely loses because she played her very best tennis and couldn't beat the other player. Now I would be really interested to see if she can keep up this level and how others fare against it.

I think we'll need until about the Australian Open to see if her consistency is here to stay. If I remember correctly she played decently for most of 2011 after Wimbledon, right?

I actually don't think Kvitova played her best tennis (there were flashes of it) at Wimbledon, but then again, there really wasn't anyone other than Venus who made Kvitova really have to play and maintain focus.

Had trouble getting on the site earlier, not to think I was sulking all this time. It was totally evident that Eugenie was in deep trouble from the start of the match, even if the first set was 3-6. Petra was ferocious, her play was stunning, 82% first serves won!!
Eugenie was embarrassed, but nevertheless it was still worth getting up at 5am for Breakfast at Wimbledon. Oh yes one Canadian did win today, Vasek Pospisil and American Jack Stock in doubles, beating the number team Bryan Brothers in five gruelling sets.:clap

The sight experienced a slow patch during the match, which got fixed. Sorry. But Genie didn't embarrass herself. Kvitova was in the zone. It was actually a good match to watch, and, as I wrote on our news feed, the scoreline looked deceptively lopsided. Genie was good, but I don't know who could have beaten Kvitova today.

Will we be able to judge whether she has turned a corner with regard to her mentality? The tour goes to North America where she struggles with humidity/asthma. Her performance generally dips after Wimby.

^ I agree with your thoughts regarding Petra against players like Sharapova,Azarenka and Serena.
I guess we will have to wait and see.

Her test will not be just against these 3 big names but playing "against" hard courts. Me thinks that different surface may change her ability and bring the stress back again. This is her real test, how she plays on hard courts.
From making 55 unforced errors against Cirstea in Toronto to winning Wimby in less than a year :D

Not really. Her next events on hard courts in USA and Canada will give the answer. If she holds form in USA and Canada then she is good to go (up the rankings). No need to wait until 2015. Thats way too far.

My point was that consistency is not whether a player does well for two months it's whether they put together consistent results over a longer period of time. Petra's consistency really started faltering BIG TIME around the Australian Open after her Wimbledon Win.

I actually think she hardly won a match in North America after her Wimbledon win in 2011, then played better in Asia before playing great in the indoor tournaments, winning Linz and the YEC. After narrowly missing out on getting to number one she really struggled apart from the Grand Slams, she reached the semi final at the Australian and French Open and the quarter final of Wimbledon if I remember correctly, in the first half of 2012.

She probably never played at a really high level for more than three weeks in a row, but until now those phases came out of nowhere around twice a year and usually ended with her winning the tournament(s) where she brought something close to her best. It will be interesting to see if she will be more stable now or continues to be as erratic as she has been during the last three years.

She was VERY consistent in being bad for the last 3 years. And what I meant is that the next 2 MONTHS are enough to show if she changed or not. Her test will come very soon.
6 Months is a long period. She can go up and down TWICE during 6 months :D
If she holds it in the next TWO months then she had a good year for me. It means that she improved for real this year, similar to what Ana did this year.
Ana also "failed" in Wimby but in reality she improved this year. She won 3 titles and beat Serena and Masha.
Thats how I judge them, by comparing to last year. I dont want them to beat everything insight. Thats hard to do.

If Petra backs Wimby with a good hard courts run until (including) the USO then she is consistent enough for me. I cant expect her to win everything now for the next 6 months. Thats very hard to do.
