will this hurt or help Novak? Three days with no match and let's say he get an inform Rafa on Sunday. In the other hands if we have a three long setter on a hot day then it would benefit him for sure.

Sorry I missed you yesterday, H-U, but in answer to your post--I can't imagine not playing is going to help Nole in facing Rafa. If Nadal gets another win under his belt (and Berdych, we all know, is capable of upsetting the apple cart), his confidence will be sky high for the final. I hope Nole practices like a fiend if he intends on wrestling with Nadal on Sunday.

Can't see how much it benefits him. You go through the preparations to play a match, mentally, physically and then it doesn't happen?

Nishi hits a great ball, but his small frame is prone to injury. Hope he heals quickly.

Surface is playing way too slow for Nadal to beat Novak, unless the latter sprays some errors in which case, the high bounce could help Rafa. However, Raonic was tracking down so many forehands due to how slow the surface is, so I can only imagine the difficulty Nadal will face in hitting through Novak. That + no free points on serve + dreadful returning is a problem.

I think it can cut both ways. If Rafa has another long match, Nole will be by far the freshest, but really, Nehmeth is right: it's rarely beneficial for a players routine to be scalped like this. They peak incrementally and the semi is a big match to play, before the final.

It won't affect him hugely but it'll be slightly negative.

Pity for Kei, though, the real story in this one...

I only think that walkovers are negative if the match figures to be an easy/straightforward one. Roger has had a few walkovers at slams such as Haas at Wimbledon 07 and Fish at USO 2012. I don't think either helped him. And that's the case here as I don't think Nole would be in any danger of losing to Kei with the most likely scenario being a routine straight set win, but now will go to the Sunday final not having played since Wednesday.

Just tuned in. That's a bummer. Poor Kei. Must be so disappointed.

Great.. I am at work.. got my lunch and was getting settled to watch it on espn3 .. (shhh) and this happens.. my Friday is wasted .. ha ha
But really I am pissed why did federer play like crap..

As for Nole.. I think he would have liked to play rather than an extra day of rest, breaks the rythm and these are not 5 setters that would really drain energy out of the player

Next year then!

I agree with you. Like I said, unless it's a brutal match where fitness becomes an issue then it could be a benefit for Novak.

If we get a hot day,the surface will play much quicker........I mean, the night match between Ferrer/Seppi on Sunday and Rafa/Milos yesterday was so different regarding court speed due to temperature.

According to weather.com, on Sunday it will be 79 F/26 C, and partly cloudy.

Is that average for Miami this time of year?

Wow...2 WO's in a Masters 1000 event. Nole you lucky dog you...

I don't think these WO's will have a negative effect. These guys are pros. He will get an intense workout, minus the stress, and prepare himself for the next guy. He played all the matches in IW so I am sure he is not minding the extra rest. I have read Nole's book. He is not a guy to go to Vegas now just because he can. He will do whatever necessary to be ready for the final.

2?

He had another one?

He could be the only guy to use injuries as an excuse for losing: his opponents injuries! :snigger

A few months ago I mentioned on this board that I did not think Nish was physically robust enough for top tier tennis. And I was right. :(

Who picked nole in 0?

Let me know..I want them to pick my stocks!

The guy has been injured or fatigued in every single tourney since Brisbane. Getting rather predictable.
