Oh that's nasty. If the injury isn't "obvious" they could be asked to submit to yet another doctor? I mean, who in their senses would replace Tsonga with Gasquet if Tsonga was fit? :ras:

Please after watching Ritchie playing doubles for France,he was the weak link?
I question why he was picked in the first place.....:puzzled

You and me, both. I'd have had Simon there for his attritional abilities. But Gasquet it is. Unfortunately for you, Fashionista, the French hopes rest on a bloke who's not renowned for winning Big. Could say that about any of them, but even more so about Reeshard.... :cover

can't believe the French are playing Gasquet in a critical singles? Did they transplant something on to him that we don't know about?

Well it takes too long to give him a brain transplant that's for sure.

I will offer my congratulations to Swiss now in advance. This has to be the most bizarre DC final, first Roger's back and now Tsonga with a injury.

Douglas Robson on Twitter,

If today goes poorly for French, media and fans may not be kind. Will this team be remembered as the Four Mouseketeers?

Oh come on. They are playing the no 2 and 4 in the world. Credit the Swiss for their performance.

Benneteau would've been a much better choice, and that's not just out of hindsight..

anyway, i shouldn't complain ;)

Exactly, they just have a weaker team. And no guarantee benneteau/RV would have faired any better.

Credit to luthi for putting on federer and wawrinka yesterday, that really made the tie for the Swiss.

It will be interesting when Fed clinches this tie, runs around the stadium carry the Swiss flag, all the Fed fans will be like the cat who swallowed the canary with this didn't mean everything to Roger, full of yesterday's lunch , IMO

No Fed fans said this means nothing to him. It's nothing however compared to him potentially winning a record 7th WTF and reaching year end #1 at 33. It's a nice consolation prize.

No, there were Fedfans who said that the DC wasn't important, but of course it means a lot to Federer. he's made a great recovery from injury and poor Tsonga is afflicted. Fortune favours the brave! Federer deserves this, and he deserves to be the bloke who puts the nail in the coffin of this tie...

One small step for Roger, a giant leap for Switzerland...and he has to play the part, carry the flag, run, etc...That's how it is played.

For my part I've always disagreed with that view. He already holds the WTF record and record consecutive weeks. I felt that this would be what he would want more. As a Fedfan I can understand how some would want other things for him

Break of serve in the third! Reeshard is in damage limitation mode now, but I think there's be no limits from here on in for Federer...

Thing is though, he's only reliant on himself winning singles events. Ok, so he didn't win his first match but for argument sake let's say his hopes of winning DC all rested on Stan winning his singles matches and Stan lost all of his...then you clearly see how his own play has no impact in this event at all other than doubles if his teammate loses both his matches. That's why as an achievement it pales in comparison to singles events imo. Nice to have of course but you rely too much on other people. As many people's parents tell them when they're growing up, if you want something done properly, do it yourself. That analogy only applies to singles matches in tennis.

That's very true. But you have to look at the upside. From a Swiss point of view, if there was any question mark about his legend, it's over now. His done it for himself, for his country. This was always the perfect scenario for him. He'll always believe he can still get number 1 and also win another WTF. How many windows does he get for this?

The only point of interest now is if Gasquet can at least try to make this look like a fight
